Thank you, still seems so surreal!
Going to spend the next few weekends clearing through things, see what can be thrown before the move to make packing easier :)
That's an excellent plan (says one who learnt the hard way)

  • I made a slow start the weekend, migraine hit on sunday - I expect due to a lovely diffuser I have not long had in....I've linked it to that because it was off for two days back on today and my head feels like its going to explode again. I caught it quickly with pain killers aired out the house and got out for a dog walk on my lunch break. Still there, but nothing like sunday & this morning.

Managed to dispose of a bag of DD's clothes through recycle bank, and I packed away most of my summer things leaving a couple of outfits just incase!!
Solicitors have confirmed they wont send of for our LISA's until all searches and contracts are in and have had any questions answered. I am hoping this means we can count October payday in.....we got our mortgage offer letter and I got the lovely surprise of our first bloated payment.....I was so thankful for my spreadsheet to see it was doable with some shuffling of money.

This week, in my breaks / after work I'm going to work on filing, shredding things we don't need to keep.

Bathroom and kitchen we have plans to go through everything we can before replacing, get rid of half empty bottles that seem to be pushed to the back when a nicer shower gel comes in the shopping!

Likewise for freezer, aiming for a fresh refill when we move - assuming we can get a delivery at that point!

Work is up in the air about the course I had hoped to start in January. The feedback from the university is my secondary school exam results are too old to be counted (flattering to hear!), and a recent course I took 2 years ago is not vocational and not academic. My employers appealed before telling me, as they had assessed me according to the requirements given to them by the UC I had passed their internal stage, strangely a colleague who did not pass the internal stage appealed and has got accepted - however going by the qualifications I do have more qualifications at higher level than she does, but hers are 10 years old as opposed to my 19 year old results. We are similar ages and have been working in the role for the same amount of time, I have the most recent higher level not being taken into account by UC. It just seems really off. I don't recall ever being told exam results lose their value or become too old to be counted.
Although I was grateful my employers had jumped straight onto appeal, it upset me a lot more than I had expected.
After calming down, I researched and found another route which should get me to the required destination - a little longer 2 years on top of the 4 year course its achievable and when qualified I will still have 20+ years of working life ahead of me. Still hoping for successful appeal, but if it fails relieved to know its not the end of the line.

  • Fingers crossed for your appeal Bellevie - that does sound odd, and I would have thought veers dangerously close to age discrimination if the reasoning is only about your secondary school exams.  Glad to hear your work are being supportive.
Thank you for the reminder about first mortgage payment - ulp - though it probably varies between lenders, I've a feeling my last one allowed a gap and then catch up so at least I didn't have a major issue with rent then mortgage.  I am just planning to make use of the 0% CC for my first month and sort it out later

  • I couldn't believe it Rosa, but having checked their website it does say recent level 3  - not how recent.
So many mistakes have been made with the process, my employers didnt have level 3 required on the application process full stop - I noticed level 3s on the apprenticeship site and at that point pre expression of interest I raised whether my 19 year old qualifications would be valid and whether my 2 year old qualification falls in vocational - it was a research and assignment based course equivalent to 1 Alevel - but focused on my job role and responsibilities at that time. Technically I can see how its vocational, having said that the apprenticeship degree course is community health based, and the degree specifically targeting the registered qualified profession so how isn't that a vocational course?

It's making my head spin thinking about it everyday. I need to try to process it and move on!!

The first payment was a surprised - I'd seen mentioned it would be higher but I had no idea that much extra!

1st weekend of cleaning to prepare for end of tenancy.
Today I have scrubbed the cooker inside and out, hoping that for the next few weeks if it get a daily wipe down it will be easy to clean up moving week.
DH has been clearing out his wardrobe he cleared out a black sack, I was secretly impressed!
I'll fit in another couple of hours in the kitchen before we wind down for a chilled evening.

Its easy to forget how much there is to do moving house - I'm not sure how I moved so frequently in my early 20's!
We've made good progress for this weekend and have collected some additional boxes ready to start packing in the next few weeks. Started with removing our photos and paintings in the living room and replaced with originals that were in the property - it looks so strange already.

We've had a good 6 years in this house, it's already starting to feel so weird knowing for certain by the end of next month it will be part of our past.
I re-read the beginning of my diary, I recall quite well how I torn I was between a possible move up north where my employers had another office or staying in this beautiful area. On paper it made the most sense financially but I just couldn't envisage myself moving away so I set out a plan to work up save and buy what I could afford here expected it to really be shared ownership at best.
I had been single for so many years at that point, and happily single at that I would never have dreamt I'd go on to meet my husband and together save enough to buy our own home exactly where my heart decided it belonged 5 or so years ago.

I've been reading the mortgage free wannabe diaries for some inspiration post move and decided when we compete, it'll be time to say goodbye to this diary and start a new one in what will hopefully be our forever home :)
