150 applications for one position!

I was told for a simple trainee laboratory assistant position, that is not even in London, 150 people applied! Is this healthy? In such competition, no one will ever get a job!

You have to make yourself to be better than the rest, make your cv or application stand out.

With big pink letters and jazy effects?

There is only so much you can do with your CV, and its fact that CV's only get browsed over as you'd imagine with 150 applicants.

I wouldnt be surprised if they stop checking CV's after finding 10 suitable ones which could be 40 CV's in.

nowadays, its a lot to do with who you know, meeting the right people at the right time and word of mouth.

Depends what you are applying for. Maths and physics teachers generally get no applicants!!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

There's not enough information to be so downhearted.

    1. A lot of people out there are being forced to apply for every available job, despite not meeting the requirements for the role/not wanting the job, or they'll lose their benefits.

    2. Don't forget to use your common sense, maths, logic and all those other scientific things - if at a point in time there are 150 people looking for jobs and 150 jobs in the area, you'll all get one (even if it isn't the one you wanted most) even though each one will have 150 applications.

Put the two of those together, and you might well find that there are just a couple of dozen of you who are serious contenders for maybe 8-9 suitable jobs in the area. In which case there's no reason why it shouldn't be you who gets one of them. (Of course you can then go around telling everybody that you beat 149 other candidates. :D)

It's not always that simple. At certain times of the year some jobs get insanely large numbers of applicants. Think of how many people have just finished science degrees. Each job may get lots of applicants, but in many cases there are lots of jobs.

Even 20 years ago, when I was in charge of a small team in the NHS, I had no experience at that point of interviewing.

I remember being totally astonished at the number of applicants who did not have the relevant qualifications, which had been quite clearly stated in the advertisement.

It's never been easier to apply for a job. I can go on to Reed and apply for 100 jobs in less than 10 mins.

If 150 people apply for 150 jobs each, everyone gets a job. So the application number is a bit meaningless.
