AVIS unexpected credit card charge
Comments

Look, I can live with full to empty. It has derailed the thread. I only mentioned it to show that I was expecting a smaller charge on my credit card.
Got an official invoice from AVIS today. Looks like they're doing me for:
Super PAI (no idea what that is at all)
PEP (again, no idea)
Combination of Charges (no idea)
Roadside Assistance Plus (I think I can work this one out and I definitely did NOT agree to this)
Forwarded to Holiday Autos who are awaiting a response from AVIS0 -
Result!
Full refund from AVIS.
I've learned my lesson though. I'll go over any paperwork at the desk with a microscope from now on. Just relieved that it didn't cost me a fortune to learn it.0 -
Good result Tony.
Amazing how you post about one issue and get slated for something completely irrelevant to your question! Seems to be the way on here.0 -
We had very similar from Avis - prepaid in full, including unlimited mileage and one-way drop-off. After returning the car, we looked at the receipt in the airport and saw we'd been charged another $230 - but with no explanation. We couldn't challenge it until we were back in the UK and it turned out they had charged us for mileage and one-way drop-off. We phoned up and complained, having emailed them a copy of the original voucher and they refunded us with an apology."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0

I had a similar problem with Avis in Orlando in August 2013. I had a 3 day rental that was fully paid in advance with Avis UK - £96.39. After returning the car, Avis US charged my credit card with a further £88.72. I sent two e-mails to Avis UK but didn't get a reply from them. I got the CC company to do a chargeback.
I suspect Avis US are deliberately trying to defraud tourists.0 -
[*]You pay the car hire company's price for fuel instead of your choice of petrol station's price.
In my experience, if you opt to pre-pay, the cost can be competitive, though agree you will always lose a small amount in unused petrol when returning. It is when you are meant to return full and don't that you get royally screwed.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
