Nokia 2720 on Three
I'm currently having to move PAYG network as my current provider is shutting down, and I want to move to Three for their 321 PAYG tariff.
I really like my existing phone (nokia 2720 fold) because it's small and has great battery life (and a swappable battery) but when I took it into a 3 shop they said that it wouldn't work with the 3 network as it doesn't support 3G.
They said it would find no network signal but, having put a brand new 3 SIM in, it finds their network and gets a signal OK and receives their "welcome" text messages.
Should I persist with it and use my PAC to transfer my number onto it, or will I just get bad/no network reception? It's not something I can test without topping it up, and I don't want to waste money on that if it's not going to work...

It's odd that 3 SIM works in this phone as the phone is 2g-only.
Porting a number doesn't change anything, so before doing this do make sure that your phone works fine on Three network.
In the past Three used O2 as 2g backup, but AFAIK they stopped this or, at least, keep doing in very limited areas.
If you are attracted by Three's PAYG prices, check Delight Mobile where the prices are the same, but the signal is EE and includes 2g bands.0 -
Thanks - I called their support number (from the Nokia) and they confirmed what you say - that it's running on a backup 2G network, though I don't know whose.
Great pointer to Delight - thanks again. Decent prices and I won't have to fork out for another phone (Ok, so I'm a bit disappointed as I wanted to buy a Moto G 3rd gen, but it's too bulky and has too poor battery life if I'm honest, even though I want it as a new toy!).0 -

3 stopped using O2 years ago for backup. They have been using Orange since. I expect that will change if 3 buy O2.0
