Cordless Vacuum Cleaners. Any recommendations please.

I don't have much luck with cleaners and seem to keep making expensive mistakes.

At the moment I don't have a cordless, I have a Vax (not an upright) and its so flaming heavy and cumbersome to use. I put off getting it out as long as I can.

As I would love to be able to do a quick whip round a lot more regularly Im thinking a cordless would be better.

I know I want one that has a brush on, I believe some just pick up whilst others actually brush so I do want the brush type. I also know I do not want a Dyson. Ive had 3 different Dysons in the past and been disappointed each time.

Does anyone have one they could really recommend please?
Thanks.

Apart from my drill, any cordless product I have ever had becomes less and less effective as the batteries age. I would go for a lightweight mains cleaner.

  • I have a vax air cordless arriving tomorrow - I'll let you know if its any good.

We bought the GTECH machine. My husband says its a brilliant piece of kit.
I have problems with my spine between my shoulder blades so don't push me luck.

We bought 2 together the normal one and the hand held. Ideal.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Don't laugh - but we were out one day and I spotted a small carpet sweeper (remember them)? It was in Wilko's I think - about £12. It's brilliant!
No more thoughts of spending out on expensive cordless machines for a few years at least. Try one and you'll see what I mean ........

I couldn't recommend any. They all suck.

We have an AirRam, too, but having dogs we do need to use the 'normal' Hoover (actually that brand)now and then, to really beat the carpets.

It's very easy to use (I have spinal problems), as it is very light and self-propels a little, like a lawn mower does.

Bosch Athlet is a Which? Best Buy.
But all cordless vacs are a trade off between weight and battery life, so don't expect the performance of a mains vac.
Which Dysons have you had and what was the issue with them?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

So our cordless Vax has just arrived - this is the model we bought:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00KPT6AQ4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

    First impressions - it's OK.

Our toddler had thoughtfully prepared a test area in the living room with his lunch which was spread liberally over the rug and hard floor. The vax picked everything up no problem and was definitely better than our Dyson DC44 hand held.

On to the upstairs where Mrs thescouselander had also prepared a test area using her hair which had been deposited all over the floor. The vax fell short here - the hair was picked up by means of wrapping it round the roller brush - not much made it to the dust collection bin. A reasonable amount of dust was collected though and since I was on a roll I zipped round the rest of the upstairs - the job was much quicker when not having to unplug and plug in all the time.

I went over the same spot in the bedroom with the mains powered vax we have an it did pick up a bit more dust - not much but the mains powered vacuum definately sucks much harder.

Overall I'd say the performance is satisfactory and the added ease of being cordless probably means the vacuuming will probably get done more often even if the cleaning isn't as thorough.
  • Can thoroughly recommend the Bosch Athlet. We bought one last year and performance is really good. You do however only get about 20 mins run time on full power. I find that it picks up more than our Dyson cylinder. Obviously the dust box is quite small compared to mains vacs so needs emptying quite often.

It has a proper brush bar which is also easy to remove and clean. We got ours on Amazon DE and at the time saved about £70 from buying in the UK so may be worth checking.

I have an AEG 5012 (I think) and its brilliant.
It picks up everything with its rotary brush (even pet hair), is really light, and has just about enough battery life to do a 3 bedroom house.
I wont go back to corded again.
