Well despite two phone calls to them, I only managed to get it down to £84.64.   I suppose that it is something.   I did misquote the actual renewal charge they originally wanted - it was £93.01 !!   Obviously calculated by a computer, a human would probably have dropped the 1p !
Thank you for reading this message.

    10 minute call = just saved £30
  • I have contacted the AA twice, my cover is due for renewal on 30/8. They have not reduced the price, £168 for a year.
    Any tips or advice?  Thanks

Following a 25min call, renewal price of £193 for 12 months turned into a deal at £120 for 15 months.  No changes to the policy.  Last year's price was £155.

  • Not sure I would call it haggling, but every year my AA renewal arrives, I phone and just tell them I want it cheaper. No discussions, they just reduce the fee to 12 months for the price of nine and take a bit more off. Not sure I'd call a two minute phone call haggling as there's never been a discussion about it, I just ask and they reduce.
  • Same as above, I got my RAC renewal through up from £167 to £187- saw an offer for AA cover for £99 and rang them, after my renewal had already happened, but within the 14 day cooling off period. I just said that it had gone up so much and I could get it much cheaper elsewhere. I've been with them around 20 years at this point (on and off at the beginning but they include it all!)  and I was offered £119.99 and an extra 3 months added on, plus the loyalty bonus of extra legal cover which stays on as long as policy is active. Technically works out around £90 per year so beat the new AA customer offer, so I'm happy with that, it's more than half off and much better service than the last time I tried. They were really friendly and helpful so give it a go.
  • Got my AA renewal through for joint cover at £302 for the year from April. I took the advice from this forum and waited until today and had it knocked down to £202 and then quoted RAC Bluelight price £156 which they matched!! thanks guys

Wish this worked with car insurance as well at the moment - they don't seem to budge very much any more!

Got renewal quote for £267 for joint cover, went on their online chat, complained it was too high, initially got a reduced quote of £265  :joy: Mentioned that I could get the same cover from RAC for £160 (from the MSE breakdown cover page), and they matched it. Many thanks to MSE and the support on this forum.
