Surveyors - anyone had this problem?

So i've got a really strange situation with a Surveyor/valuer. My mortgage adviser has never come across anything like it in all his years so wanted to check if anyone else has.

Basically the mortgage was going through and they contacted the surveyor to get the valuation and report done last week. But rather than contact the EA or as far as we can see do anything, he's just put it on hold. The mortgage company thought it might be the lease and we thought there might be something regarding underpinning, but on a further call we found out there aren't any notes to say why.

Chased again and this time got them to call the surveyor who wasn't there, but again could see the file which again didn't have any details other than they're not doing anything and will contact the mortgage company next week.

So basically just sitting on it for 10 days since they got the instruction, not doing anything, not saying why and we are now all stuck. Anyone had that?

The mortgage lender instructed the surveyor, so they should chase the surveyor.

    You chase the lender.

    On holiday?
Sounds crap, keep chasing the lender.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.
  • Yeah we chased the lender about three times or more this week. Last was yesterday where they said they'd hear from him on Tuesday as to why.

It's totally cool, it's not like these things are time bound and involve all the stress in the world...

If they would just give me a reason I could at least start to get moving on whatever the problem was, if there is one. At this point not even sure if there is, other than the fact nothing is being done which is a problem.

These appointments get put on hold for various reasons - You'd be surprised how many times no contact information is put on the forms about who to call to arrange access. - chase the lender, they can re-panel to another firm if need be
  • Ha, I think i'll scream if it's just cause he doesn't know how to get access to the building and has left it 10 days to contact anyone.

If the access info isn't on the form I.e the agent. They have to pass is back to the panel manager who refers it back to the lender, who in turn can take ages to get back to you.

Surveyors have high turn around targets to hit and they don't delay jobs without good reason.
  • Yeah that's why it seems so strange. I figured these guys are normally the quick bit as they are just doing as instructed.

I'm sure I'll find out next week, just seems a bit of a waste of a week if there is something we should be looking into.

Work load and availability will come into play. As they won't be sitting around doing nothing.
  • Thanks all, I realise in the grand scheme the delay is nothing. Just the fear of having to head back out on the London property market *shudders* and the ever decreasing amount of space you get for your money.

Also because I know where I'm living is being pulled down probably before Christmas if not sooner. I'm a property guardian (only chance I've had to save a deposit) so we get little notice. Id rather be out before that all happens.

On a plus note, any delay might mean I get an extra pay cheque in before the mortgage starts taking its chunk.
