I make no comment on the mis-diagnosis argument which is totally inappropriate here.

This is a difficult time for you as you grieve for the loss of your child. Please take time to allow yourself to heal and I hope that all goes well for you in the future.

I was talking generally, and for the sake of anybody reading the thread, and not necessarily at the OP, who has clarified that they had 2 scans. I apologise if any distress was caused, perhaps my posts were inappropriate for this thread. I will remove them if people are upset by them.

I think that may be commonplace. I'd actually forgotten that I also had two, until Ian said. I was sent to a hospital with more advanced equipment, this is almost 17 years ago now though.

I'd also forgotten how bad the dreams were in the following days that I'd delivered the baby. Thinking you've been incorrectly told isn't an anguish I'd want to add to anyone's sorrow.

This thread is so much more positive than others I've read. You google Anencephaly recurrence and almost everything that comes up are stories of it happening multiple times.

In a way you have answered you own question here - if you are specifically searching for information about recurrence that's exactly what you'll find.

Termination is never an easy choice; termination of a wanted and planned pregnancy must be devastating. But I am glad you had that choice.

Unfortunately, people in their righteous indignation have quoted them, and I can't delete the quoted posts, of course. I can delete the original ones, or they might get deleted anyway, once enough people have ganged up and reported them :( Oh well, such is the internet.

But it's ok for you to make derogatory comments about another poster? (I'm referring to your 'attack' on Jojo, who wasn't claiming to be an expert, but was sharing some positive information, from her personal experience, for the benefit of the OP)

'attack' in inverted commas? because it wasn't an attack?

Because I pointed out that having been an admin clerk or whatever they were doesn't make them an expert (which it doesn't)

I think I'll leave you lot to it. You seem to love arguing and ganging up on people. Frankly I've got better things to do with my time.

By the way anybody can say anything on the internet and appear all knowledgeable (not having a go at anyone here, but it's true) You do not know these people, so take anything that's written with a huge pinch of salt, imo.

No-one is claiming to be an expert. You don't need to point it out. You are taking a controversial stance on this thread so you will get responses with which you don't agree. And, I quite agree no-one can KNOW who is posting, where they are coming from and what their motive is.

    Hi,

After two straightforward pregnancies our third was terminated at 13 weeks due to anencephaly. I was 32 at the time and DH was 28. It was a very sad time for us as nothing had led us to believe there was anything wrong prior to our first scan.

We were offered counselling by the hospital at which stage the consultant confirmed the diagnosis had been correct.

We waited six months before trying again, and I took the prescribed folic acid to boost our chances of a healthily formed foetus. We were very lucky to have a healthy baby boy who is now 11 and just about to start secondary school.

Sending you my very best wishes xx
