I have a family member who went through this, and now has a happy healthy daughter. I hope you go on to have a healthy family.0

Firstly, I'm so sorry for your loss. I know of someone who had the same diagnosis in their first pregnancy. They've gone on to have two further pregnancies unaffected by the condition. I know both pregnancies were extremely worrying for them until they had been for the 12 week scan. Hopefully the stories you're getting on here from people who have come across this before will reassure you slightly0

No advice, I'm sorry.
I just wanted to send you both my very best wishes and I hope that we hear soon, that there is going to be a new healthy addition to your family,Treat other's how you like to be treated.

I'm sure there are many more.
These women would have gone on to have the foetus killed, had they listened to the medics.
If you knew what anencephaly was, you'd understand why it's not something that can be mistakenly identified - the part that has not developed is considerably more obvious than the tiny flicker of the heart.
(OP, I'm trying to put this across to that poster in a way that doesn't hurt you anymore than you are already - if it still distresses you, let me know and I'll delete the post)
From working in Gynae, I can tell you that every mum I encountered that experienced this that chose to try again, went on to have healthy babies. And I'm sorry that you have had this loss - I am absolutely certain that you did what was right for everybody concerned.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

None of the above links mention that a condition has been diagnosed that is severe and the hospital has been wrong.
When this happened to us, the radiographer did say to us, just in case you go away and discover that someone has had a child with this condition and lived, I have to tell you that in your case the baby's condition is at the severe end of the scale. My (now) husband said to her 'So, there is no hope (that the child would survive)? Radiographer shook her head and told us, Sorry, there isn't.
Please don't agonise yourselves over thinking the hospital might have got it wrong.0 -

Have the foetus killed?
Sorry but this is a very emotive topic for so many people and your pro-life propaganda is of no use or comfort whatsoever.0 -

In my area it is now routine to offer at least a second scan. I miscarried in June and I had to go back a week later, even though they were 100% sure it was bad news, because, as the sonographer put it, miracles can happen.
Correct termination is "have the pregnancy terminated" - This is not the time or place for the abortion debate. Our Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016

One of the most horrendous thoughts that I've had since was, "what if they were wrong and we terminated our baby?"
But they did two scans, one with senior consultant. There's almost 0% rate of misdiagnoses.
We had a very dark few weeks but we looked after each other and I'm amazed by how strong my wife was, the whole time. I know she'll be a great mum. We want to be parents even more than before. We've started trying again this month.
The advice from all the various consultants and midwives we spoke to was that when you feel ready, just start trying again, wait for one normal cycle and take the higher dose of folic.
Thank you to everyone who has responded, I didn't think there'd be so many.
I'm really pleased that so many people went on to have healthy children without further problems. This thread is so much more positive than others I've read. You google Anencephaly recurrence and almost everything that comes up are stories of it happening multiple times.
I hope in future when others are desperately looking online they find this thread and it gives them a bit of reassurance as it has me.Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

ANYTHING can be mistakenly diagnosed. Having done a bit of filing in the gyn dept of a hospital doesn't make someone an expert on the matter any more than the rest of us are.
