When I had a minor accident - with my Rover, the Insurance company gave me two options where to have it done. One of these was a 'main dealer yes, but Peugeot!

It may depend on the Insurance company - but some Body Shops will fit what is called 'spurious' parts i.e. not supplied via the Dealer network. In theory that may be ok, but with these parts, there'll likely to be a variation in how they fit.

Therefore if you say you want it repaired with manufacturer's supplied parts, the quote to the Insurance will be greater than otherwise.
I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard
  • the insurance may well state that non genuine parts might be fitted , however bodyshops hate this , as the amount of work to make them fit can exceed the cost difference .

if you are not happy with the fit , or indeed a panel had not been undersealed , refuse it until it is satisfactory

no , just suffers and drives

" actually suffer from bad anxiety have done for the last 15 years, after having been ran into the back of me at 50mph when i was stationary"

"i cant sit back in it without an anxiety attack comingback on flashbcks etc "

I was beginning to wonder if the OP had a 15 yr + smashed up car on there driveway ?

Insurers and many garages use the same software to estimate the time to do a job and then its simply a case of negotiating hourly rate and what discount off MLP will be given for paint and parts.

They may consider a small difference in rates for franchise garages but its not massive and certainly they dont stand for the normal trick of charging mechanical hourly rate for small bodywork jobs

Go to any garage you want for your quote, unless your insurers charge a higher excess if you dont use their garage but short of going to a real backstreet place the difference between franchise and a coachworks isnt going to be much once negotiations are done.

no for your information it was a 2011 corsa
and i was told by the vauxhall dealership the price would be different as the independent garage will be using oem parts whereas vauxhall will be using genuine parts

if your not going to write something useful dont write anything
  • yup always believe a dealer ,

OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer ,, yup the firm that "actually" made them , before Vauxhall buy a batch and add a huge markup on the price and a Vauxhall sticker

but there again , Vauxhall dealers know best , even tho they farm most of there bodywork jobs out

aftermarket parts are not OEM parts , yes there is a huge trade in aftermarket parts , everything in your local motor factors is aftermarket manufactured.

however in most cases , a lot of parts fitted to new vehicles are not made by the Manufacturer , paint , interiors all plastic parts bumpers engine parts inc fuel injection "black boxes" spark plugs filters fan belts are all bought in , ie aftermarket parts.

most car manufacturers only make (press) the actual bodyshell and build the engine from parts bought in

its the quality of aftermarket parts that causes the problem , but believe me if a bodyshop has problems fitting panels made by one firm , they will ditch them and change maker/supplier time is money , and badly fitting parts take time to sort out
