I think you may find its a form of "due diligence". They want to be confident that you can afford to buy,maintain the property. What they don't want is you buying it and 3 yrs down the line have it repo'd and then your back on their doorstep wanting another Social Housing property and it does happen on a regular basis.beattiesman wrote: »have rung them all they say is its a government thing
I know of 3 families who bought their Council houses/HA and years down the line are back in Social housing but the properties they bought are not ,so there are 3 less Council,HA houses for people in need.
The data is also important because they can tell a lot from the financial postition of the tenants. Oxford University looked into this about 3 years ago and it turns out that only 5% of shared ownership owners staircase up to owning 100%. Without the information given by the public we would never know. It also turns out that less than 10% of Social Housing tenants can afford to buy their properties under the new RTB rules. Data is important in many instances.0
