PNC Check showing No Insurance !
I was stopped by Police as PNC check showed me having no Insurance. After all checks were done (including Police visiting my home to check my Laptop to prove i was Insured) it transpired the Insurance Company had put a letter wrong on my Policy Document. The Police were very understanding stating " this happens all the time " just phone your insurer to get them to change it. Upon doing so they inform me it is a Policy change ! After a 5 minute dispute they Insist it was not a fault on their part however they will waiver the Admin charge for changing the Policy. BUT as it is a different Vehicle due to a change of one letter giving different history of the car ???? It incurs an increase of premium of just short of £40. Surely this is Bull***t ! Therefore i had no choice but to pay !! Needless to say i will not be renewing with Swiftcover !!

when you filled in the application for insurance , did you just type the number and it chose the car or did you state make , model yr and then type in the reg number0

I had a similar thing with Admiral.
They put my numberplate down as a B not and E, yet it was still the same make/model of car.
I noticed when my policy documents were sent through and rang them straight away. It was no hassle and they didn't attempt to charge me an admin fee, argue who was at fault or try and increase the premium. I was quite shocked tbf.0 -

This was one of the most common reasons we used to field calls from the police after road side checks indicated there was no insurance on the vehicle.
Most systems are automated as Insurers want as little human involvement by their staff as possible as staff cost money.
The vast vast majority of errors of this kind are due to the customer transmuting numbers/letters or simply typing one letter / number incorrectly. This means the wrong vehicle is registered as being insured on the insurance database and obviously the police officer cannot see the correct vehicles details.
A large percentage of the customers involved in such cases ring up giving what for about how disgraceful it is when in fact it was their own fault.0 -
Things may have changed since I left the Police in 2005 BUT it may be a case of PNC not showing any Insurance details at all, ie No trace of car Insurance policy number etc , then it's down to the individual officer's , much the same as the Immigration database0

Anyone alarmed by this thread and doesn't know how to check if their car is on the database:

Did you insure online? If so do you still have the emails with the quote? Do you still have the emails with the confirmation?
Most importantly what did your original policy show? If it was wrong why didn't you notice?0
