Travel insurance for 80 year old with pacemaker

We want to take my MIL on a cruise next year for her 80th birthday. I have just run a few quotes and the insurance is coming out at £500 plus for 10 days.
She has Angina, a pacemaker, is on tablets for cholestrol and blood pressure.
Any ideas on where I may get a lower quote? I have tried the ones on an old thread on here.

It's the cruise part causing the huge quotes, on board medical facilities charge top whack if you are illEx forum ambassador

I never thought of that, so if the question is not specifically asked quotes may be lower?0

Try getting the Insurance Surgery (a broker) to find you quotes:
http://www.the-insurance-surgery.co.uk/insurance/travel-insurance
We used them to get life assurance as my husband has a complicated medical history. They specialise in insurance with pre-existing conditions. Certainly when we used them, there was no fee (assume they're paid on commission by the insurer) and no obligation, so no harm in seeing if they can better the quotes you've had. We found that they knew the best insurers to approach for hubby's particular medical conditions, so it saves you some legwork.
And of course, no harm in carrying on looking for quotes yourself, in case you do better.
EDIT: Just seen they use an online quote system for travel insurance (was different for life, where we spoke to them). Don't know if it's any good but can't hurt to give it a go...0 -
Thanks, I have got one a little lower, still looking though.0

Make sure you're covered for helivac and repatriation - don't wait for the question to be asked; you need to tell them it's a cruise.
IMHO it's her medical conditions and age causing the huge premiums, not the fact it's a cruise.0 -
I didn't think you get asked what mode of transport you're using!? Just geographical limits.
it must be age & medical making it £££How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.98% of current retirement "pot" (as at end April 2025)0 -
often it is asked further along the process like skiing0

You've probably tried already, but did you try Saga. We went a cruise earlier this year and OH aged 84 got a cheaper quote from them than others. Phoned to ask if this quote would rise because it was a cruise and was told they dont add on a cruise surcharge although they knew many other insurers did.0

Learn something new everyday....never knew travel Ins had a 'Cruise surcharge'.
But then have never been on one either. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.98% of current retirement "pot" (as at end April 2025)0
