How many days to list items?

Options
Just wondered what people think is the best amount of days to list items.

I usually list for 7 days as when I am looking as a buyer I look at best first then items ending soonest then items newly listed.
I always think the items listed get seen more ovr 7 days rather than lets say 30 days.

What does everyone think about this? Would be interested in comments!

I do not think it really matters in all honesty. If an item is going to sell then it will sell. 10 days gives more time for people to look, especially this time of year when people are away on their holidays. I have seen a collectible go for a good price after a 1 day auction. Really it comes down to how quick you want to sell. I normally go for 10 day auctions but will do a 3 day auction if I need a quick sale.

I think most buyers just accept whatever listings Ebay gives them under Best match. Therefore getting your listing right is more important. You also get a lot of buyers looking at the cheapest item so 1p can make a difference.

30 days is only for buy it now. If you are listing something buy it now then you'd be crazy to do it for less than that.

I must be crazy then because I list buy it now's and do them for 7 days. If people search by ending soonest they are not going to get as far as 30 days. It depends what category you are selling, if they are things there aren't many of and there will only be a few pages of results then 30 days would work but for "boys trousers" or similar like I list they'll be loads of pages!

With EBay everyone has their own way of doing things and theories of what works. If it works for you I'd keep doing it.

I don't ever search BINs by ending soonest. I figure for most things if they're about to end and haven't already sold there's probably a reason for it, especially if they've been up for 30 days. I always searched by lowest price (and sometimes newly listed for very popular items so if one is a good price I'll stand a chance of getting it before someone else).

I always list for 30 days. Costs the same and more likely to find a buyer in that time. Out of the items I've sold recently I think if they'd only been listed for 7 days I'd probably have only sold 1. The rest would have been relisted multiple times and I wouldn't have had the massive reduction in final fees either.

For auctions, I've always put them up for 10 days I think so they were more likely to be seen.

As mrcol1000 says though, everyone has their own ways and things that work for them.

I've just listed several items this week on 30 day BIN, having had a break of about 8 months from selling. I was surprised all items listed sold within 24 hours, some within an hour of listing!

Same here. I rarely ever use Best Match or ending soonest for BIN items- the stuff ending soon must be unsold for a reason.

I either search for lowest price BIN or recently listed- I have several categories I search in those ways on a regular basis.

I usually search by lowest price aswell but I don't price my items all that low so they wouldn't be on the first pages that way either. My items aren't something specific a person would search for, I would expect them just to be browsing girls dresses or boys trousers etc and not refining the search to just fixed price so looking at both auctions and buy it nows and maybe ending soonest!

I'm not against trying a 30 day listing, I may try some now they have got rid of the free relist as I only list on free listing weekends and listing every free listing weekend for 7 days with a free relist meant they were constantly showing anyway but maybe had the added boost of people searching newly listed or ending soonest!

I think it does depend on what you are selling and what works for you.

BINs seem to be really flying at the moment I don't know why. On my private accounts I usually list only as auction but due to some changes in the way I am working I decided to convert some to 30 day BINs just to get rid of stuff as my house is groaning under the weight of unwanted items. Stuff that was listed a good few times on auction has started shifting on BIN, and by another strange co incidence always about half way through the listing- how weird is that?

I love all the co incidences and patterns on ebay, another one I have noticed is things selling from the same box. I list a lot of vintage and collectable items and have a system where I keep a note of the box where I have stored it. Some items just sit there on BIN for months- then I sell something from a box and within a few hours I sell two or three other things from that same box even though I haven't been near that box for months.
