Removing electrical tape glue from glass

I've just about finished a new renovation to my home. While the renovation was proceeding a large X with electrical insulating tape was placed on a sliding door - to stop people waking into it.
Cleanup time is just around the corner and I'm wondering how do I get rid of the glue residue left on the door
I've tried ordinary window cleaner but that hasn't made any difference. I know I can use the likes of a Stanley blade, but I don't want to just in case of scratches
Any suggestions?

Meths seems pretty effective.

Cooking oil or WD40 are usually the first things I try to remove anything sticky.0
-
WD40 - it removes pretty much anything, even stuff that meths won't touch.0

In addition to the above suggestions, Isopropol alcohol should do it.
There are also various branded "Sticky Stuff" removers on the market.
You are wise to avoid using a sharp metal blade.0 -

White spirit, never fails0

Pretty much any alcohol-based solvent. Gin will do it, or meths. Any of the above as well. But, for some reason, I always have gin to hand. And meths ....0

Don't think I want to come round yours for cocktails:eek:
The sticky stuff should come of easily with white spirit, it's much cheaper than Gin.0
