Hi All,
I will be applying for a "First Time Buyer" Mortgage in the next week or so.
My offer for the property has been accepted and I have about a 25% deposit.
I'm looking for a reputable "Whole of Market" Mortgage Broker who can assist getting me a mortgage.
Which "Whole of Market" Broker would you recommend?
I am looking at possibly: London & Country, Charcoal or Countrywide. Any advice on any of these brokers?
Or shall I go with a small local "Whole of Market" broker?
Any info/advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Your looking at big name firms rather than reputable (not that I am saying they are not reputable).
Speaking purely from a personal perspective, I would not touch countrywide with a bargepole. Neither their mortgage advisors not their solicitors.
London & Country get mixed reviews on here, some rate them others do not.
Charcoal, I have never used and do not see much feedback on here.
Can friends or family not recommend anyone?I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Which will be most of the small local firms.I am looking at possibly: London & Country, Charcoal or Countrywide. Any advice on any of these brokers?
They certainly wouldnt fit what you are after. If you like a factory line process then one of those is ok. Another has a reallyt poor reputation.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Until recently the likes of TSB and HSBC would not deal with brokers. TSB now use London & Country and HSBC now also deals with Countrywide. The brokers will get you a wide range of deals from most of the market but often it pays to get some quotes directly from some banks, building societies.0

TSB deal with more than just L&C, we recently gained access to them also.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. We had awful experience with Countrywide, so much so that we decided to leave and change broker mid-process who did more for us in four days than Countrywide did in two months. Not getting a recommendation form me unfortunately.0

Really depends what you want, particularly as a first time buyer, I would want to sit down face to face with someone and spend some time, to make sure I fully understood the process, and what is available. L&C and Charcol are as far as I know phone only, to me a mortgage is far too important just to do by phone.
As ACG says the best thing you can do is get a recommendation from friends or family.I am a mortgage adviser. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Take your pick really, just avoid EA services full stop. I got my Mortgae broker on here and it took him 11 days to get an offer, which is pretty good considering I was self employed."It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"
