Can banks not accept Recorded Delivery?

I posted two letters wednesday the 8th, via recorded delivery 1st class, one to Lloyds and one to Egg.

Now a week and a half later, i still cannot get confirmation of delivery on the Royal Mail website. I tried ringing them but they make you speak the reference number to an automated machine. I wont say on here what i ended up saying to that machine!

Ill be sending next day delivery next time, but im worried whats happening with these two letters. They should have taken no more than three days, lets say monday at the latest with the weekend an all, so im not being impatient. Urm..help?

    Hi Hughie,
I had the same problem with 2 letters I sent to Bank of Scotland. I read somewhere that they sometimes sign for items in bulk. If this is the case, then Recorded Delivery is a waste of time and money and the post office are making money out of a service that doesn't exist in some occassions. Since then, I have sent everything Special Delivery, a bit more pricey, but guaranteed,

    Hi guys

I sent out my court bundle to the banks solicitors recorded delivery but 4 weeks later and the item still hadent been trackable as delivered.

You can then claim a minimum of 12 1st class stamps back from royal mail by filling in a form available online and then sending it to them.

I sent letters to HBOS recorded delivery and they have been fine but when i tracked them online and viewed the signiture it was a stamp saying "RECEIVED" which they used.

Ok thanks alot for the replies.

ill try and get through to speak to someone, then complain at paying for a service that is completley rubbish.

I sent my first one a few weeks back just normal mail. They ignored it so i sent them recorded to 'guarantee it', haha.

    Special delivery it is.

the banks/solicitors are getting bulk loads of recorded deliveries, the problem lies with ..imagine having 2000 recorded deliveries land on your doorstep....they dont sign individually but as a mass...so therefore you will never receive confirmation....always best to use overnight courier (if you can afford it) that way you are confirmed a signature without charge.

How's about NOT using recorded or special delivery?

You don't actually need to be able to show a court that you sent the item, but if it concerns you, send everything as either 1st or 2nd class and get a free Certificate of Postage from any post office.

No need to worry about "was it or wasn't it" any longer...
  • And banks do not always sign for Recorded delivery items anyway, usually the postie squiggle. Not yet signed for recorded delivery, special delivery yes but not recorded.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009
