Minster Baywatch Parking Charge

Hey guys,

New here, having a little bit of a headache regarding a ridiculous parking charge

Had a letter in the post this morning from Minster Baywatch regarding the car park outside Reel Cinema in Port Talbot. It's a pay and display car park, but if you're a cinema customer you can register your number plate inside and it waives the parking fee. I did this when I went there two weeks ago, but I've still ended up getting a charge

I called the cinema and asked them what happened; they said that the tablet we used to input our details "must have lost connection" as the reg for my car wasn't on the system for that day - there wasn't even one similar (we asked just in case it might have been input wrong). I'm assuming there's CCTV in that area of the cinema so if they checked it, they would see that we put the number plate in. We have receipts to prove that we were cinema customers, and the manager of the cinema even gave us the transaction ID to give to the parking company.

What should I do? Should I write a complaint to Reel, seeing as it seems to be their fault that I've received this charge? I'm assuming they would be the landowners in this situation.

Thank you in advance :)

  • if the cinema accept that you were a customer , and had entered your info into faulty equipment , GET THEM to contact Minster Baywatch and get it cancelled , the cinema hire Minster Baywatch , so they can TELL them to cancel it , once done , get this in writing

Don't just deal with the cinema.

You also need to deal with the invoice you have been sent in tandem with dealing with the cinema.

Read the newbies FAQ thread at the top of the forum for advice on how to dispute the invoice.

Don't admit to the ppc you were the driver!
  • OK , do NOT write to the cinema

GO IN PERSON and speak to the MANAGER , get it quashed at its starting point , the PPCs employer
  • E-mailed the cinema, got this response:

"Thank you for contacting Reel cinemas customer services team.
Can you provide me with the date and time of your visit please, and the charge reference number and car registration .
You will need to follow the appeals procedure to Minster Baywatch and include evidence of your visit, including tickets, transaction number, please send this by recorded delivery.
One of our technical team will be in port Talbot and i shall ask for a report on the status of the touch screen.
Please do follow the correct procedures in your appeal."

It seems as though they won't cancel it themselves, they still want me to contact the PPC.

I had a look at the newbies post and the template but wasn't sure whether to follow it exactly or not. I'm not in the wrong - it was a technical fault at the cinema - so will it still hurt me if I mention that I was the driver? Or do I say that "The passenger entered the car's details into the system while the driver paid, but the car's details haven't appeared on the system"?

    Thanks guys.

If you have read the thread you should know the answer!

Don't reveal the driver's identity to the PPC!
  • do NOT send your tickets etc by recorded post , send PHOTOCOPIES by first class with free proof of posting

never mind there "tech team" , the people on the ground have accepted that the machine was faulty and know you visited on the date in question.

Its up to THEM to get it cancelled , not your job to run about to humour them.

with the simple info , date and time of your visit , transaction number , charge reference number and car registration . this should be a simple job.

speak to the local manager in person , get him to stop it.
  • Hi, I am also having a nightmare with the Reel Cinema Minster Baywatch. I did the same thing, I fortunately have receipts, put the reg mark into the Ipad, got the notice to keeper. I emailed Reel Cinemas and got no response, I have also emailed Minster with a photograph of the ticket (sorry I didn't come here first) Have had no response from them other than more letters. How did you get on? Sorry if the answer is out here somewhere I am new to this.

One of your appeal points should be 'frustration of contract'. Essentially extenuating circumstances beyond your control, but most definitely caused by their faulty equipment, prevented you from complying with the terms and conditions of parking.

A court would throw this case out in 10 minutes.
