Plusnet, unfair charges?

Hello. I've been a PlusNet customer for over two years now, I initially had a 18 month phone/broadband contract with them which has expired. I'm due to move house so contacted them to see what the options are, they can transfer the service to my new address "for no charge" but this results in an increased monthly payment, to be totally honest the service has only just been good enough and certainly not worth the £27 they now want per month.
The only other option is to cancel the service but this incurs a £33 cancellation fee on top of paying up to the cancellation date as I've only given them ten days notice rather than the 14 they say they require.
As I'm out of contract how can they charge me a fee? Could I fight this as an unfair term and condition?
They have already warned me if I don't pay it they will pass my details on to a debt recovery company, I'm fuming!!

if you are out of contract , you are now on a one mth minimum cancellation contract , therefor a full mths notice will be needed without any cancelation fees0

OK, cheers. Its sticks in my throat the fact that the cancellation fee is more that a months payment.
Its probably worth £33 to get rid of them0 -
It's the BT OR cease charge, not a cancellation fee. All ISP's charge it if you cancel, rather than transfer, and is in your T&C's.
A home move starts you on a new minimum term and the price will depend on current pricing, and possibly may be higher due to being on a different exchange (i.e. a Market 1 exchange without LLU providers will be more expensive). No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Steve, just cancelled my contract midway,as you can if they put charges up

That ONLY applies if you cancel within 30 days of receiving the email announcing the increase in phone charges.0 -
I had been having connection problems over several months, agreed to pay for an engineer but then it was resolved so cancelled. It recurred and was worse, eventually after weeks of reporting and hours wasted trying to phone. I called up and cancelled stating my connection had dropped 20 times in 2 hours, speed was slower than dial up. I was at that time on aa free contract, now they want to charge me for the remainder of my now non-free contract. I feel after putting up with major problems for over 5 months I was right to cancel they were NOT providing any sort of acceptable service. Today I received a debt collection agency demand for £50+ a joke given the abysmal service I endured. I've tried to explain several times but theycompletely ignore my comments. If they can't resolve after 5 months why would anyone remain a further few months.0
