Hi
After much deliberating, I've just bought a pc with Windows XP (SP2) installed.
I use MSN instant messenger and have downloaded the latest version onto my new pc. I've just realised that there was already something called "Windows Messenger" installed on the pc, and it looks identical to MSN messenger, and now the two are running side by side.
Are they the same thing? And is there a safe way of getting rid of "Windows Messenger" without messing anything else up?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Windows Messenger is a basic version of MSN Messenger/Live wont do any harm having both installed, but no need.
go to
settings
control panel
add/remove progs
addremove windows components

Yeah, I had a similar problem with a previous PC, and no matter what I did, including removing the prog through add/remove, it would not disappear. The worst thing was, it would automatically log me in, and would give the impression I was on line when someone else was using the PC. windows messenger used to be a right nuisance with popups0
-
navigate to c:\
navigate to Program files
navigate to messenger
then rename the main program name to something else (it's used for remote access so may be needed at some point so don't delete)Ex forum ambassador

You're both referring to Windows Messenger Service which is not the same as Windows Messenger.0 -

Don't I know it!!!!! There is a virus going around MSN at the moment which sends a message to all your contacts asking if you have put a picture on the following website ratethisface.net. Whatever you do don't do as my daughter did and click on the link as it infects your computer and sends the same link to all your contact! Grr0 -
