So, what are your opinions? I have recently sold my pesky 15" screen and am looking to buy a new screen... Now, would like to get an idea of whether it would be better to get a 20" fullscreen or a widescreen? And is 20" enough? My budget for the screen is about £150ish...
Thanks!
Thanks!

there is still a strong preference among buyers towards 4:3 computer screens, but i guess its up to you which suits your needs best.
Again, size is a personal thing. Some people can find a 20 inch screen overbearing on a desk, others will settle for nothing less.0 -
Most applications are still made with a 4:3 format screen in mind, so I would stick with 4:3, unless the monitor were very large. But that's just my opinion.0

Go into a store like PCWorld/similar & check them out firsthand.
There are many advantages (another article) of widescreen over the standard 4:3 - so widescreen for sure (OK, I'm a little biased!). Even the '4:3 applications' look & handle better in widescreen I reckon. And get the biggest reasonably good quality one you can afford for the money - they aren't overbearing unless 32" & above!
I was using a 15" CRT a year ago then bought a 19" widescreen not knowing what to expect. Initially, I was surprised that it wasn't as big as I thought it would be. It was a little weird to begin with - the wide 1440x900 res was a far cry from the 800x600 res I was used to on the CRT. But after making adjustments to some Windows display settings to make it 'appear' more like the latter, I was very pleased. I soon grew to love it & I'll never go back to 4:3 unless I had no other choice. G0 -
Widescreen for me. Wouldn't go back to 4:3. It takes some getting used to, but once you do it feels much more natural due to the shape on the eyes and less boxy.
20" should be fine and quite a nice step up from 15". 22" screens are becoming more common but can still cost a lot. I'd go for a nice 20" screen. Maybe a Dell.
Or the Belinea 10 20 30W is a good monitor, has had lots of good reviews.

You should be able to get something like that for about £130
My brother has one, very nice monitor for the price."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
Standard screen for me, remember you will get more visible screen from a standard screen on a like for like size basis.
I cannot see any benefits in a Widescreen Monitor to be honest, they just seem to be the latest fashion thing.:rolleyes:0 -

.
You're saying that because you haven't used one &/or haven't made use of the benefits - see here for a few.
But as pgilc1 nicely put it, 'i guess its up to you which suits your needs best'. G0 -
It's a more natural shape/aspect for the eyes. Once you get used to it you'll probably not want to go back to 4:3."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0

Thanks for the help guys. I have now increased my budget to about £200... have narrowed my choices to:
Dell 2007FP
Samsung SM206BW
Samsung SM225BW
At the moment, I'm leaning on the 225BW.0 -
Don't be so narrow-monitored

Obviously a biased review, you obviously didn't notice the top/bottom cropping on the W/S.
Why pay more, for less actual screen size?..beats me.
To each his / her own, as they say...0 -
