iphone 5 not charging

I do use a 3rd party charging cable, charged mine fine until today and charges an identical iphone, mine however won't charge at all since this afternoon. I've tried connecting it to the computer as well and it's just not recognising it. Should I try a genuine apple cable tomorrow or is it likely to be my charger port, should I just book a repair visit?

I did spill tea near it earlier but the phone didn't seem to be wet?

If the cable "charges an identical iphone", this locates the problem being with the phone, doesn't it?

Me and OH have iPhones. Some cables work on hers but not mine. Make sure all the dust has been picked out of the charger port as I imagine some cables are more sensitive to this

Also all iPhone cables I have ever owned have been rubbish.

It was happily charging mine too until today. Thanks all, I've had a google and found a mobile repair company who are locally recommended and reasonably priced, also with a 'no fix no fee' policy so at least if it's b*ggered I won't have a bill to pay. Hopefully they'll fit me in tomorrow I'm just waiting for an email back.

Any update? There was a posting on here where a local shop broke a customers iPhone while taking it apart, so I would be very wary of non Apple repair people.

The Lightning cables are all very poor quality, even Apple ones, so double check that the cable isn't the problem. If your phone is low on charge it may draw more current than a near fully charged one, giving the impression the phone is the problem when it might be a faulty cable.

Our cables rarely last more than 6 months... A diabolical design from Apple :mad:
