So in the new year we will be looking for a car to replace our Juke, would keep the Juke but need greater towing capability.
Requirements are:
1. Automatic as DW is disabled, don't mind slush box or cct.
2. Sitting position for my DW must be high like the Juke and Smart Fortwo but not like big 4X4s which she has difficulty getting into. Our previous car was an Auris diesel which was fine but sitting position bit too low.
3. Economical, I know slush boxes are not good in this.
4. Safe to tow a 1100kg caravan.
5. 4/5 seater.
Can be petrol or diesel. Current Juke is 1.6 petrol,
Budget is about £10k, could be a bit more.
Thanks in advance.

Aren't 'slush-boxes' part of history now?

Do any current vehicles have such a thing?

Many modern auto-boxes are very efficient and give more mpg than the manual model.

Many high performance car manufacturers don't even give a manual option any more - it's auto or nothing.

I would suggest you do abut more research rather than slag off auto-boxes.

Good luck in your search for a slush-box.

    How about a Freelander 2? - Unfortunately they don't have slush-boxes. ;)

I think you'll find most still use slush box technology - both of our automatics do. The big advantages: is it's reliable, proven technology and smoother than anything else - CVT, DSG or semi-automatic.
Most torque convertors have a lock-up feature to reduce transmission losses.

Silly question - is motability an option for you?

Thanks, Our Juke has a slush box, Auris had mmr but we got on fine with it unlike some others on here! Thought about motability but as we intend touring France for two or three months with the caravan think a purchase would be better.
Our Auris returned over 50mpg and the smaller Juke gives 31mpg, that is why I thing slush boxes are less economical. But don't mind that just need to start looking at cars and arranging test drives.

It seems you liked your Auris, what about staying with Toyota and getting a verso? Doing a quick google search it says 1300Kg's as towing capacity, its higher up so easy for the boss to get into, and out of!!. Not sure on the diesel but the petrol one came with a CVT box, so super smooth.

Motability covers you for up to the standard 90 days - more if you ask them.

Looking at the Towcar of the Year 2012 the diesel juke has a towing weight of 1250kg. Is the petrol model very much less?

Edit: Ah, the petrols are 1150kg.

Yes that is what I read. Just feel that I would rather have a bigger safety margin when we go fully loaded on our several months european trip next year.
So come on guys tell me which car you feel best suits our requirements?
