How much is caller display?

Hello there
I'd really like to get Caller Display as I have a troublesome friend who calls me frequently and can't understand that I don't want to talk for hours.
How much would it cost? We currently pay BT about £34 a quarter for line rental and we pay next to nothing for calls through some other supplier (I don't know who - OH deals with it). Does anyone know how much more it would cost to have Caller Display?
Thanks

I think BT caller display is free?0

if you are with BT and have a compatible phone (ie one with a screen) you should get caller display for free.Wiggly:heartpulsFB0

My Mum is with Virgin and really wants caller ID, but you have to pay for it, is there any way around this?0

For those on BT Together Option 1, it costs 9p* per month - because, to get it (nearly) free, you have to make at least 2 chargeable calls per month via BT if you're billed monthly (6 per quarter if you're billed quarterly).
* 2 x evening or weekend UK 01/02 calls @ 4½p each.
See [6] in my '6-steps' under the 'HERE' link in my signature below.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

It is free as part of BT Privacy at Home.

EDIT: Heinz was obviously typing his much more comprehensive reply at the same time I was typing mine.0 -
I bought a new phone and realised afterwards that it was "caller display" compatible. I think the phone cost me about £35. I get the service free from BT.0

Its £1.75p a month unless you claim it Free as part of BT Privacy at Home, and then again its not free if you dont put 2 chargeable calls a month or 6 chargeable calls a quarter via BT.
See Heinz,s post above for the nearly free solution.0 -
Thanks Everyone. Thanks especially to Heinz for that really useful '6-steps' which I will print off and study carefully.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

Yes, you phone up Virgin and state BT offer caller display for free, then say would you be able to provide caller display for free too.
They often say yes. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Caller Display for Free?
I used to pay for caller display with Toucan. I then discovered they offered free Caller Display if you registered with their TPS service.
As this was not an advertised service option I wonder if all phone companies offer it also?
Worth an email to your telecom provider perhaps?
