I'd love to have my Christmas menu planned for but I don't know how many people I'm having for dinner yet, but after reading your menu MrsLW I'm going to do one and just increase or decrease quantities as required. I'd love to do something different from the norm as I usually end up cooking meat that I don't eat and buying loads of cakes, biscuits etc that get wasted so a bit (or a lot) of organization is called for, and anyway I won't be able to afford it this year as I'm not working now, so that will be shock for everyone, I always have everyone at my house because it's the only one where everyone can fit in but I always end up doing everything and by the end of Christmas I'm exhausted and glad to see the back of all the visiting relatives. Sorry about that I don't think I mean it!!!!

We have our meat sorted out quite early for Christmas this year as it is 33% off at the moment. :j

Lots of planning to do yet though.

I love Christmas, but Christmas as it used to be and not having things pertaining to Christmas in the shops in August, and the two week holiday that seems to be the norm at actual Christmas now. I like to be planned and then I can buy something every week towards the celebrations and spread the load moneyswise. I don't like commercialism at the best of times and we try to stay old fashioned in our own personal way, we have always tried to bring the children up to NOT take notice of advertising and the pressure to have the latest 'fashion' toy/gadget but to really think what 'they' wanted from Santa, worked well and I'm going to carry that on especially now that we have our little grandson in the mix. Luckily his Mum thinks along those exact lines as well so he'll hopefully grow up as a not aquisitve little man and enjoy our own preferred brand of Christmas celebrations.0

I love this time of year as I can start 'making' - just waiting for Sloes to ripen at the moment, I,ll make a few bottles of Sloe gin - I,ve got a bottle left from last year, so will have a more mature one to start off the festive season
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Thanks Lyn,will give that a try, sounds good.We are similar as a family and enjoy our own style without the consumerism.I do tend to be a more traditional cook though, mainly because if I try to change things too much, the kids complain!

Mine have homes of their own VULPIX, Mwahahaha I can cook what I like now!!! But they do have the recipes and they do cook them like I do, and they DO have Christmas as we always have, in fact DD1 who is 36 comes home for it and HAS to open the stocking sat on the bottom of our bed on Christmas morning!!!0

oooo I forgot about slow gin, I made it a few years ago and it was a huge hit. The only problem is I threw all my bottles away as we had a huge chuck out....I wonder if I can use any old bottle?
Last year I made my first Xmas wreath for our front door, I just followed he instructions off youtube and it was so easy and so impressive. We just collected from the woods all the berries/Holly and greenery and it was free as we have a huge reel of garden wire in the garage
Kindness costs nothing

What sort of things have you put on your spread sheet? i like doing things by spread sheets so any tips would be welcomed! This year I've been determined to be more organised & cut back further. I prepared a spread sheet
I purchased cards/wrap/crackers in the jan sales.
I have all the Xmas presents sorted from sales/second hand.
Now I've started collecting drinks when half price
Also I've cut down on the amount of Xmas cards I'm sending by post this year, stamps are too expensive:(0 -
