We are doing a homemade hamper for each person, adults are having homemade liqueurs in personalised flavours, so my mum is getting elderberry (from our garden), my sister in law is getting parma violets flavour. They will also be getting a photo in a frame each of various things, taken by my wife and frames decorated by me to match each of their decor, flavoured olive oils, biscuits, candle holders, etc.

Then the 2 kids are also getting homemade and one bought toy, name bunting for each of their rooms, biscuits, a toy box, a knicknacks box, both hand decorated by us.

We are looking at each of the adults coming in at £10-ish and the kids at about £10 plus toy up to £15. It is spread through the year, starting in about may or june so it is maybe £20 a month

We don't do a tree (boy dog gets too confused with indoor trees) so we just have a few things that hang on the walls, nothing new except some candles.

We put an extra £50 to the side for Christmas food, thats it. :)

Very good idea. Husband has been known to ask in the past if I'm planning to insulate the whole loft with something, when I have been stocking up on stuff on offer, and kind of went over the top :)

Think I need to make a list of what I need for Christmas and quantities and cross off as I buy stuff.

  • I usually make hampers for friends each Christmas, but I have decided to have a change this year.

I have found some lovely boxes of Yank** candles on Ama*on at a very reasonable price so I am going to start buying these, and they will be easy to wrap as well.

I have 3 grandchildren, all grown up now, so it will be money, a couple of stocking fillers and their favourite chocolates.

Himself and I don't buy for each other now, if we want something and we can afford it, we buy it. When you get to our age there really isn't anything we want and couldn't live without.

With regard to the families of nieces and nephews we buy a tin of biscuits and a large box of chocolates.

We cut down on presents last year and it was a good feeling. I suspect we are all given something which we might not use , and I am sure I must have bought things that people didn't want (not intentionally obviously) so it is saving money all round.

We are going away for a few days at the beginning of September, and after that will start thinking about Christmas food. There again I don't buy as much as we used to because it is wicked to buy too much just to end up throwing it away.

I look forward to hearing all your suggestions
