    Hi,

    How's it going?

JUst a few practical thoughts. My dd's school have a record book - it's usually used for reading comments etc but is also used for quick notes and concerns etc. Buying a book bag may also be a good idea - everything comes home in my dd's- all of her letters and homework etc. If your school doesn't have a record book perhaps you could suggest it for your son if he's still struggling, it's also good for motivating and writing little positive, motivation notes for your son - my dd loves the little pics we draw when she reads eg turnip heads. Reading everyday is just about the best thing you can do - reading is the basis of most learning.

Should have made my post clearer, sorry. I'm assuming the child has to get from home to school, so say 15 minutes each way, that's a total of 10 hours out of the house every school day, which I thought was a very long time for such a small child.

Same as many younger children who attend day nursery

I think schools need to get their act together on informing parents that opt in via email. Or they could have all news published on their school website so that it could be checked.
think of all the money it would save the school in paper and printing as they wouldn't have to do as many copies, and it would save the environment a great deal as well.

I work in a school office and we send information out by email to those parents that want it that way or on paper for those who can't be bothered to check their emails daily or who haven;t got email. All letters that go home on paper have the child's name written on them and are usually put in book bags, which most schools now have. You would be amazed at the number of book bags that are never opened, children are never heard to read at home and so the letters are never seen by parents.

I always asked my children every day if they had letters for me and I now have one at university (so obviously he doesn't have letters and is 300 miles away anyway) but my DD is in the 6th form and I still check.
Re putting them on the web site - personally, whilst we have a school web site which I "run" I don't have time every day or even once a week to keep it updated with all the letters, notes etc that go home. You'd need a dedicated web master for that !!!!!
