I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop and I want to upgrade the Hard Drive but I don't know what to buy. I have an MK 3275G SX Disc Drive at present and it's for a Toshiba C540D-11Q model of laptop, I've seen similar ones on the internet but they don't have the same number ... there is one very close, it is MK 3276G ... would that do the job.?

What is the reason for wanting to upgrade? If you just want more space, an external USB hard drive would be a lot easier...0

I've done all the basic stuff .. my backup discs won't boot and my recovery discs won't boot ... due to the fact there is no boot sector in the laptop.0 -

You can boot from a recovery disk though and that does not need a boot sector on the Hard Disk. Is you bios setup to boot from CD/DVD b4 the hard disk?

Tried all that ... won't boot from the HDD or any discs. I changed the boot order several times but no joy I'm afraid.0 -
a machine can boot without any hard disk in place

A number underneath the laptop that looks like this, it's the precise manufacturers code:
PSC08E-01C00FGRScience isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0
