£600 back from Orange after their price rise.

Some time ago my partner and I took EE to court over their 2013 price rise (see below link for details). I’m pleased to say that, as predicted, they’ve decided to settle our two claims with substantial payments..

In each case this has meant that we’ve had to take the process as far as paying the court fees for the Small Claims Court, but as we got a date for the hearing they’ve offered to settle.

In each case we claimed the full amount of the contract that we continued to pay after we requested cancellation. In the first case, they settled in full (for seven months of payments £200), in the latter they’ve just offered to reimburse the early termination fee that they quoted at the time (£390) rather than the full amount of the contract we continued to pay (£500). We’re still deciding whether or not to accept this latter offer, but either way, £600+ isn’t a bad return for a few emails and a bit of time at the PC.

As far as we know, EE haven’t bothered to defend a single one of these cases – essentially as they haven’t got a leg to stand on.

We informed Offcom about this at the time, but as has become increasingly clear throughout this process, they’re no help to consumers whatsoever.

EE have likely been making more than £50M a year from these prices rises - the fact that they could do so against Offcom guidelines and the wording of their own contracts is an absolute disgrace.
