Possible Oil Tank Replacement
iris

We recently had our Titan plastic oil tank filled by Chandlers Oil, however the driver said that he had inspected the tank and that we had a small crack and he suggested we possibly needed the tank replacing. The crack is very tiny, in fact we hadn't noticed it. The tank is 14 years old.
Has anybody had the same experience and if so what was the cost?
Any help would be much appreciated. If it helps we live in south Lincolnshire.

Older Titan tanks have had issues and this is pretty well documented on the Internet. I suspect this might have been due to UV degradation of the plastic, but in any event, many folk had their tanks replaced within the 10 year guarantee period.
My Titan single-skinned tank was about 10 years old when I disconnected it earlier this year, but it was in good enough condition to sell on. Significantly, perhaps, it had been sited in a shaded place.
Once the plastic is showing a crack, even above the fill line, it's worth considering replacement, probably with a bunded tank, (2 skins) which is safer, and compulsory in certain situations.
I don't think the oil chap would have filled yours if he'd felt there was imminent danger - he'd be culpable too.
Bunded tanks cost around £1200 for an 1800 litre model, but some heating engineers might buy cheaper and pass some of the discount on, if you're lucky. There will be fitting and disposal to think of too, but your oil company may also offer a pumping out service so that you don't lose the oil you have in there.0
