OP, you mention that your partner is two years from retirement. He isn't by any chance, working beyond 65 and choosing to defer his pension, as people past State pension age do not pay NI contributions ?

Post 11 seems to indicate he is not yet pension age.

Tried to contact HRMC after holding on the line for 36 minutes the lady he spoke to did not ask for any of his details just asked what it was about, told him he should be paying up till age 65 and said his employers would have to contact them! Have now applied online for an NI statement but it can take weeks, have also written to DWP incase we can get any information from them.

The accountant should be advised in writing (send your letter signed for) that HMRC require him to contact them so that steps can be taken to rectify the error.

Ask the accountant to confirm to your husband in writing that this has been done and that he will contact your husband as soon as HMRC have replied, to tell him of the outcome.
