I recently ditched BT in favour of PlusNet for broadband and calls (MSE recommendation) saving £20 per month. I was out of contract. However, I paid my line rental in advance at the end of November 2014. I still have 4 months left and they say I cannot reclaim the remainder. Can they legally keep money for a service I did not receive? Help!

Yes they can you have received the service and the terms and condtions state no refund except in exceptional circumstances. Saving money elsewhere is not exceptional. You should have waited 4 months before switching.

Many services especially insurance charge for the year and do not give partial refunds.

TV licensing charges by the quarter even if you only want a licence for a few weeks.

    Sorry...
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

It's made crystal clear when you sign up for LRS that it's not refundable should you leave BT.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

It's one of those things that lots of people don't want to pay, but moaning gets them nowhere.

You can always put a consumer movement together, and get millions of online votes. I know I will register my vote.

Look at the airport boarding pass thing. They don't want to give you the VAT back, but BOOTS has already gone soft.

The problem is if customers come together demanding refunds from Line Rental Saver products when they shift providers, the providers will simply do a Sky and axe Line Rental Saver.
