  • We considered Keynsham but out of our price range which is 175k. We could go higher as our joint salaries would get us a higher mortgage but we want our mortgage to be in region of £600-£700 and to fix it for 5 years.

Filton is on the up, I think, especially with Abbey Wood and EWE so close, but I agree with Stoke Gifford, which is where one of my relatives lives.

Maybe not affordable though. My DD is trying to move there and the monthly rents make my eyes water!

There are different parts of Filton. I'm moving to the new Charlton Hayes area which is between Filton and Patchway where the old runway is and it has got a good reputation, but then 3 beds start at around 220k.
  • I have seen quite a lot of new development along the ring road between Longwell Green etc Chipping Sodbury, Bitton, Warmley et al.

NW Bristol was on the property !!!!!! Locationx3 last night. Family properties there seem to be sold within the day.

How about the other side of Bristol ie Shirehampton which would get your husband on the M5 and M4 to get to Bath?

Norton and Radstock are fine. Paulton is improving.
If you are interested in villages then you could look at Chilcompton, although you may find it is a bit above your budget. Peasdown always seems to me to have a vast acreage of new-builds without much in the way of actual town, although of course it would depend exactly where you bought.

Like LandyAndy, i would probably pick Norton over Radstock, but there are a couple of new developments in Radstock at present and some redevelopment, so it may improve in the not-too-distant future.

I definitely echo Chippenham, some of the best schools in Wiltshire (Sheldon). Right off the M4 and with the trains tracks being electrified, you will be able to get central London in around 60-70 minutes with only one stop at Swindon. You then have both Bath, Bristol only 30 minutes away by car, ten minutes or so by train.

Best of all, its cheap for that area. Not as cheap as Somerset or Devon, but considering its such a good position for commuting, its a good location.

Have a look around Cepen Park North / South, they are the quick to go, but nice developments to live on.

Chippenham has never been as much in the limelight due to its neighbor Bath being such an attraction, but don't overlook it, its a good safe town, with lots of beautiful country side (castle coombe (War Horse) and LaCock (Harry Potter)

Midsomer Norton is fine, my company has an office there and we've never had any problems. We moved out of Bath because we were being constantly burgled.

I live in Bath and I would like to stay here. Where were you getting burgled?

What about all the murders, there are at least four in every weekly episode?
