Only you didn't. You waited until the oil-pressure light illuminated, then put half a litre of oil in.

    That is not topping up.

That is doing the bare minimum to put the light off.

You really need to switch off the attitude if you want people to help you, you know - the only idiot involved in a situation where an oil-pressure warning light comes on is the car's owner or driver.

And there was me, under the apparent misapprehension that you'd had the oil pressure light come on, noticed the dipstick was barely damp, and put half a litre in - only for your garage to promptly chuck another litre and a half in.

I wonder where we could possibly have got that impression from?

100k worth of town driving is going to see a lot more wear on the engine than 150k of motorway cruising for example.

Not if its serviced according manufactures specifications. It will have the same tolerances as new, for modern 1st world built car
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring

    Not really.

Manufacturers often stretch out service intervals beyond what they should be ideally to make their vehicles more appealing as it gives the illusion people are saving money.

Short runs around towns and things causes the engine to overfuel more as it's not warmed up. Over time that causes accelerated wear from the oil becoming contaminated quicker and sometimes bore wash.

The constant stop / starting, sharp turns, worse road surfaces puts more wear on ball joints, track rod ends, steering racks, bushes, engine mounts.

going up and down the gears more often in town will cause more wear on the gear linkage, clutch and gearbox.

The most basic part though is if 100k miles where a lot of that will be done in 1st, 2nd and third gear where the engine will be revving higher higher vs the same mileage where it's done mostly in 5th gear

100k miles isn't a lot unless it's all done in town. My last Mk4 Golf had 250k on the clock when I sold it and was still running fine. It was a diesel but they can do the miles if looked after properly.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

If its FSI engined, then 1L of oil every 300-500 miles is doing well, they drink it.
Agree with above, they are no better than any other car for reliability.
I do Contracts, all day every day.

It isn't. It's 17 years old, so the chip on your shoulder about VW oil consumption isn't relevant in this case.
