You need to question your insurance company as to why they have restricted you to buying from Currys.

I found a digital camera I wanted for £105 on Dixons website and printed it out to take to Dixons. When I got there, found out they're no longer on the high street and have been replaced by Currys (same group). Currys listed the camera for about £120-125 on their website but I asked the guy nicely whether he could price-match and do it for the same price as Dixons. He did :)
  • Ive been today again to 2 currys in northwihc.

First one, a big old currys didnt have it in.

Second one, a currys .digital had it in, and when i expressed an interest a girl asked if she could help. I said id like to know if they can price match as i have seen it for alot cheaper. She went off to ask another sales assistant, who came straigt over telling me that if i had seen it in a store within 15 miles then yes.

I asked about dixons and he laughed and said no chance, as they are not dixons anymore, and its online only. Dixons is online to compete with online prices or somthing. I Told him that i would buy it now if they could price match it with dixons, and his reply was that he would loose money if they did that. He said there is no way they will match dixons and that i wouldnt find a currys store that will do that. He seemed very forcefull about this.

Mabey im just going into the evil currys stores, but thats 3 now in the last 2 days that ive tried that have had it in stock (all currys.digital btw) who havent budged a bit on price. The best they offerd was to match it with the currys website, which woudl have saved me a massive 0p.

Im getting seriously wound up with this now and feel like throwing these vouchers in the bin, I seriously dont want to pay currys extiortionate prices out of principle now, they are a horrible company who treets customers like dirt.
    Waddle you do eh?

    I agree with Inactive.........
Why is your insurance company making you use Currys ?????
Sounds to me like a bit of a funny going on......
You should be given a cheque and then you can buy from where ever you like.
Never heard of 'vouchers' been given out

With my insurance claim for a camera, either the camera would be sent directly from Jessops or I could have vouchers and go in store and get myself - paying the excess. The vouchers came from Jessops as that was who were supplying the company. The vouchers said that they could not be used on price match items. I could have bought myself and reclaimed, less the excess but decided to get the insurance company to replace.

Can you wait a little while to see if Currys offer any discounts on the camcorder? I waited about two weeks after getting the vouchers - to the start of the next month - and found the camera went down, and by buying the replacement memory card on line (for about £18 instead of nearly £60 in store) I found I was not out of pocket by the excess, and I got my dd her own camera.
  • I dont know what to do about it now. I really want that camcorder, and i want it asap so i can start getting videos of the kids, as we lost some tapes with the camcorder that went missing for the last year of recordings.

I dont want to let currys win and just end up getting a cheaper model either. And i dont have the spare cash to put towards gifting currys an extra £130 pounds

I see where you are coming from but.....I assume these vouchers were given to you to buy a camcorder equivalent to the one you lost/broke?

If you can buy an equivalent camcorder in Currys with the vouchers without spending any of your own money then you haven't really got cause for complaint!

One thought I have had is that these vouchers presumably aren't restricted to camcorders?

Are you planning to buy anything else electrical in the near furure? Perhaps Currys would be cheaper for this item and you could use your vouchers on this and buy the camcorder elsewhere?

Are any of your relatives planning to shop in Currys...you could sell the vouchers to them?

Perhaps it's worth finding a currys store in a town where there IS a shop within 15 miles selling it for less?

Let us know the model number and perhaps MSE users know of somewhere cheaper?
