I've been searching the forum but haven't found anything up-to-date, so which is the best online place to sell HB books.
Not old, not autographed, etc.
I've tried a few sample searches of the books I have and have found them on both eBay and Amazon. I have an eBay a/c only.

I'm sorry but in my experience unless the book is either quite rare OR autographed, books are quite difficult to sell anywhere.
There used to be a great website (Green Metropolis) but TBH there's that little demand for books that sadly it ceased trading.
If you Google you'll find a few BUT I have no idea how good they are; you would have to research further.

I have found that even on car boot sales, they sell for very little and so (sadly) I have personally resorted to keeping my local charity shops well-stocked!0 -
If you found them on Amazon, look at which ones are being sold and how much for. If there are a lot listed and many at 1p then they won't be worth it. If there are just one or two and they have a high price then they may be.
You can also search for completed items on Ebay.
As above, generally speaking, most older books don't sell but they're often worth checking. It's the least likely ones that could be worth money, the more popular books tend not to be..0 -
I've used ziffit.com before and they are very good. They also take CD's etc... You won't get more than 20p or so per item but as others have said, unless the book is rare or only just out, you'd be lucky to make that in profit competing against the 1p sellers.0

best bet selling them at a carboot , or local facebook groups of gumtree in a joblot"If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane"0

I have had to offload hundreds of books and after looking at amazon/ebay and other sites decided to take them all to charity shops. Even the expensive good condition books weren't worth much.0

I had to start disposing of thousands of books when I gave up selling them on Amazon, I had storage lockers and outbuildings full of them. Most of my local CS wouldn't take more than a few at a time, Oxfam were brilliant though and would take car loads at a time as long as I pre warned them so they could clear room to accept them.
I am down to the last few thousand now but a bit stuck as Oxfam will no longer take books as they have too many in stock. I occasionally sort out the odd few hundred and hide them in among others things to go to a charity shop- and I've tried giving them away of freecycle etc without any luck. We had those book dumps in the recycling centre where you could bag and drop books- but they have all now gone as well.
I certainly wouldn't bother with a car boot unless you have tons fo room- they go for pennies and are not worth hurting the car suspension over.
The market just completely went - in the days when I was selling them it would cost me upwards of £10 for a couple of crates at an auction- more for good military books (which I specialised in). Now most b and m auctions won't even take books- and if they do they often go for £5 for 5-6 crates- certainly more than I can carry in my little C3.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Pretty much ditto what Soolin said. Hubby used to run a mail order bookshop, and even the brand new books which he couldn't sell were worthless after a little while, and wound up being sent for pulping. The biggest culprits were what he calls "Mass market paperbacks", which covers most of the books which your everyday person buys from bookshops. I used to work in a school, and took as many (age appropriate
) books as possible in for the library, but it broke my heart to see so many lovely, new books taken away for destruction.
We have a specialist Oxfam Bookshop in Cambridge, who take bags full at a time. If you do "Tag your bag", they write to you with an update on how much your books sold for, and what they've used that money for, which makes me feel pretty good. Not the same as having money in your pocket, but someone out there has benefited, whether that's Nepalese women learning farming skills, or a village in Sri Lanka getting help to build a community centre.
There is just no value in books these days© Cuilean 2005. Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental.0 -
Books go to my local Lions bookshop now. Nowhere for me to sell them.0

I would really recommend the site We Buy Books. I used that, and also Amazon's trade in programme, to get rid of a lot of old uni books we had lying around. You put in the ISBN number of the book on the site and they will make you an offer of a price if they want it. You can usually find a code to bring the price up slightly higher too (10% or so). You can be paid by bank transfer, check in the post or by Paypal and they're very quick. You can also post things off for free too if you opt to take them to a collection centre.0

Thamks for the postings.
Mine are not pulp fiction either.
I've put test books into Amazon trade-in and We-Buy-Books and I was offered around 10p or they didn't want it.
I too have come across the problem of eBay's maximum allowable postage charge for books. I have a heavy boxed set of Folio Society books and came up against it there.
And on eBay I came across some books on a Buy-It-Now that barely covers the postage and eBay fees. I've listed a few books on "BIN or best offer" and got offers which would not cover the postage!
I have a few non-fiction special interest books and some of those have sold on eBay. I tend to agree with pixwix...I will be giving books away.......0
