Minor car incident. Should you report to insurance?

Agree but his car was much further away and I had ample time to pass through. I already made it more than half way through. If I was in his place would let the passing car clear the way.0

And you can prove he was doing that speed can you?
Judge : "So why do you think the other driver was at fault when you were overtaking a parked car"
OP : "Well, he was speeding"
Judge :"If you were aware he was speeding, why did you overtake the parked car"?
OP : "erm"
Judge "So was the other driver speeding or not"?
OP : "erm"0 -
The Highway Code is clear on this:S163
Overtake only when it is safe and legal to do so. You should- give way to oncoming vehicles before passing parked vehicles or other obstructions on your side of the road
If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
You might find that by the time the other party has spoken to their insurer, the damage is more than a wing mirror, and may possibly involve personal injury - hopefully not, but you never know. I would suggest speaking to your insurer telling them that you and another car clipped mirrors, there's no damage to your car, and the other driver drove off without leaving their details. End of. I wouldn't start telling them that you pulled out to overtake and you clipped his car whilst on the wrong side of the road. I agree with most of the other sentiments - that the incident was your fault - but it doesn't really matter when it comes to reporting it to your insurers, unless you somehow hear from the other party who say they aren't going to claim - which you can't know because they don't have your contact details.
I had a rear end bump in April when a driver ran into my car at around 10mph. We swapped details and I told them I'd check the car out and let them know if there was any damage - the bumper was a bit loose but easily re-affixed, no damage to frame etc. and no injuries. I rang the other driver up a couple of days later, told them no claim, they said their car was alright, we both agreed no need to let insurers know. Job done.0
