How much can she save until it effects our benefits?

My partner and I get housing benefit and council tax benefit. My 24yr daughter is autistic and has just been placed on esa support allowance, backdated £5800. She wants to save this but as she lives with us and pays nothing towards the household as an non dependant I'm wondering will how much money she has affect our benefits, or how much can she save? Please help if know any advice.

If she's on ESA and has near £6,000 then I'd start charging some rent from her income so she's stays below £6,000.
Backdated benefit payments can be used to pay off debts accrued whilst waiting for the payment. You could ask for a portion of this in lieu of unpaid rent whilst her claim was being decided.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Since you are receiving HB and CT reduction you need to inform the council that your daughter has been placed in the support group of ESA? There is likely to be a non dependent deduction for HB and maybe for CT reduction.
Usually the non dependent would need to contribute to the household expenses to make up the shortfall. Of course this may be more difficult for your situation.
£6000 is the limit for savings before income based ESA would be affected but the back payment would be disregarded for some time - think it is a year.
Perhaps she could buy something for herself if you do not wish to take money from her.0 -
