  • We moved into a new house last week, and have a phone line connected, we plugged in a phone and got a dial tone, but we arent paying line rental at the moment, but I am with AOL, so do I need to be paying line rental if we only use the net, and get a dial tone?

Yes, who else do you think will provide access to the network without paying line rental for it?

I had this done a few months ago - they had to install a new line rather than reconnect the old one, not clear why. There was no charge.

The new line initially didn't work and an engineer had to call. There was a threat of a charge for this (150 quid IIRC) if the line was found to be working when the engineer checked.

Of course it wasn't working, so he fixed it and there was no charge.
    Trying to keep it simple...;)

Hi 1st time poster, long time reader...

....Ideally I'd rather not have to pay to have the line reconnected, pay a monthly rental fee for BT and then also pay the BB monthly fee on top of that too.

Can anyone help with some gems of ideas?

    Much appreciated...

I was also in the same boat before few months. My house had a BT socket, though the line was not active.

I called BT and they started that line in 3 hours, no installation charge and minimum contract of 1 month.

    I hope this helps

You've either got to pay for BT to connect their line or for Virgin Media (ex NTL) to connect their cable (assuming they cover your area). Cable's currently £25 to connect (so cheaper) but your are then stuck with having to use virgin media for your ISP
Sign up online before end of the month and they give £10 discount - so installation will be £15.
