I had a look on Righmove for properties £100k and less. At first I thought there was a lot available and then realised most of them were garages for sale.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Mortgage (Nov 15): £79,950 | Mortgage (May 19): £71,754 | Mortgage (Sep 22): £0
Cashback sites: £900 | £30k in 2016: £30,300 (101%)0 -
How about turning it all on its head and thinking: I earn £16k, there is a strong possibility that (especially with the soon-to-be increases in NMW) I can get another job elsewhere in the country, without a drop in income ... so I should move to an area where my mortgageability = cost of property. That thinking would then give you a plan to move away from London.
Next issue: books .... if you can afford your new house on your new salary, then you could view this differently and say "In the new area I'll have fewer opportunities to source the right sort of books, but even with a reduction in my sideline income it's not so important right now because I'll own my own home and be settled/able to build a life for myself".
There must be other areas where the books you source are available, unless you're especially seeking specialist volumes or old volumes that aren't probably available outside of your present area.
Maybe working on the above you could scout online for some potential areas, then find out where all the car boots etc are and book yourself a 3-day break Friday-Sunday to go round the shops/markets etc to see if that's a feasibility.
Cardiff is a city, with cheaper housing ... if you didn't want to go "oop North". Bristol too. Newport's mid-point between the two (cheaper than either). And, once established, you could even keep an eye out for "cheap deals" online for nights at hotels ... and the 2-3x a year they turn up you could hop on the train with a sturdy wheeled suitcase and return for book shopping trips to your old haunts.0 -
I read rich dad poor dad unfortunately the unofficial inflation eat saving. Unfortunately, I am doing well with someone with learning difficulties, apparently. I always get,'do you own a Car'. I answer 'Yes I can own a car. Its a car not a damn plane. I am not a complete retard'.
What unofficial inflation?
What's your car got to do with it?0 -
I agree with PasturesNew about Cardiff. I used to live in SW London but now live about 25 miles from Cardiff.
It's a vibrant, university city with a good community. There are lots of car boots and secondhand shops.
Here's a one bedroom flat for sale at £55K. Click here.
Another one that's nicer for £58K. Click here.
Cardiff is much nicer than London, in my opinion.0 -

The unofficial inflation is higher then what the government wants us to believe. Inflation is a form of taxation. Google 'inflation tax'What unofficial inflation?
I guess I just went on a rant how folk have a low expectation of me to the level they are surprised I own a car. What's your car got to do with it?0 -
I currently live in bed sit with 8 others. I have a sink in my room, share toilet and kitchen. It is not a house-share, and manage to stay out of other folks way as a result. Unfortunately my land lord is giving up the property, so I have to leave. I am looking for similar property at similar price. Unfortunately, I don't know the best way to do this. Also the price seems considerably more then what I am paying now,£325. I don't like the thought of taking a £100+ haircut .
it seems that buying a flat seems to be a better option if I am to pay so much in rent. Though, don't like the thought of buying a property at the top end of a housing bubble.
Do you really live in one room with 8 other people?
Is the £325 all bills included or just the rent per month?
When do you have to be out by?
Have you tried the website spareroom.co.uk I did a quick search and found some properties for you: http://www.spareroom.co.uk/flatshare/?search_id=233894104&mode=list&I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. All the bills was included except electric. It wasn't so bad. Very few people used the kitchen which has two cookers. Surprisingly, folk are out of my way. The landlord had problem with the tenants. Most simply did not pay on time or at all and many was messy.
There was one tenant with learning difficulties. He always paid and give no trouble and tidy. When I think about it he was the most normal one there . Without his learning difficulties he would be married with kids like the neighbour next door. Unfortunately, he has, so he is down hear with the dredges. But all in all I was happy living there.0 -

I have seen the speed that property is built. I can only assume that is also very cheap to build thinks to modern technology but all that technology only goes to benefit then wealthy, well connected or older folk who got in early

Yes, and I've heard that very rich people actually GIVE the land to these wealthy developers in order that they can maximise profits0 -

The answer to inflation, official or unofficial, is for you to get a better paying job and save more.0
