The rights to offer the Home Use Program may cost the company money depending on the licence/software assurance deal they have.

Try signing up here - http://www.microsofthup.com to see if ifs active for your company.

I am sure the OP isnt too bothered if it costs his employers money if they have decided to offer it?

You have bought a one year subscription, MS do not sell perpetual licences for 365 or multiple retail licences for any other version.

Apologies - my wording was wrong. You're correct its a yearly licence

    True.

What I meant was as it may cost the employer to offer it (it can be an add on to some select agreements) , the Employer may choose not to offer it to their staff even if they are are a huge multinational.

Yes, my current client being a case in point, 28,000 employees exclusively using Windows and Office 365 but no HUP. Appears on the noticeboard every few months as a "why dont we get" and someone from IT always says their licensing type doesnt allow it

I think (but not 100% sure) its only included if you take the option that automatically upgrades your licenses as new Microsoft products are released. Software Assurance I think.

If you just license say Office 2010 for x bazzilion PC;s but don't take the upgrade option its an add on option. If you license the latest Office and have the upgrade option on then its available.

Obviously it depends what your company chooses to license, big multinationals probably only upgrade ever other version at least so its more cost effective to do that.
