Monday 10th August - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free!

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending!

So be proud of those small steps, they really important! :money:

    Morning DFW-Warriors,

    Thanks for the starter, Ziggy.

I'm up bright and early as I'm waiting for a phone call that will come "sometime today".

    Debt-Free Nillionaire Month Three:

    * Do job-seeking.

    * Try to spend free EE £20 e-voucher online if what I want isn't still out of stock.

    * Turn chicken carcass into stock (Link) and use to flavour some cous cous later.

    * Check online banking.

    * Re-tune Freeview box to see if we can get any more channels. Our signal is very bad as we live in Timbuktu and we only get about ten channels but I'm every hopeful of a new addition!

    * Put the time right on sitting room clock so I'm not late for anything important.

    * Clean the house with Stardrops and washable cloths. Hoover mattress ourselves; do not pay £50 for a 'professional' to do it.

    Keep fighting, Warriors.

  • NSD today - I love those.
Pulled a cauliflower from the allotment this morning to make a River Cottage cauliflower and chickpea curry http://www.meatfreemondays.com/recipes/cauliflower-chickpea-curry/ haven't got any chickpeas though so will use baked beans with the sauce washed off (Jack Monroe style!).
Forecast is rain in the South West today so will save money on watering.
    Have a great day everyone!

Bit of a spendy weekend. Purchased some flowers to be sent to a relative up North who has lost her husband to cancer (my great Uncle). So that was an unexpected £18 (split the bouquet with my Mum).

Had takeaway with friends on Saturday (£8) which was an unaccounted for spend, silly me :( But I did take some alcohol I already had in the cupboard (a bottle of Pimms I picked up on Amazon Prime Day for £8!)

    So on to today:

:starmod: Do 5:2 fast day (shake 2 of 3 down!)
    :starmod: [strike]Cycle to work[/strike]
:starmod: [strike]Contact client who is due to pay me soon[/strike] Nudged him again.
:starmod: [strike]Continue with website for another client[/strike] Got through a fair bit today and they are testing the site now!
:starmod: [strike]Do OnePolls[/strike] £38.80, only £1.20 to go until cashout!
:starmod: [strike]Reconcile YNAB[/strike] I seem to have £20 MORE money than expected... hmm.

Going to try the NSD's again: NSD of August: 1

    Debt-free and Proud!
Morning all - welcome back Ziggy!

Ally - thanks for the stain remover voucher link over the weekend, will be getting that printed off today!

Bob - I saw your posts about Harry Potter yesterday and I remember this article. I thought it might be a cheap way of seeing some Harry Potter things with your boy http://www.buzzfeed.com/chelseypippin/the-definitive-guide-to-harry-potters-london

Dull one for me today. NSD today. Off to see a friend tonight but have some snacks in that I can take round. Looking forward to a good catch up with her.

Think about carpets vs wood floor for the sitting room / dining room. Wood seems easier to clean, but expensive and also possibly cold? Hmm.

Been going to quite a few nice free events with my niece and nephew over summer, like an Alice in Wonderland themed maze this weekend, and a fun day with free rides, bouncy castles and fund raising. I hope places can continue to provide events like this. I do worry when I read about councils having to make even more cuts. A big source of stress for me professionally too.

Anyway, I won't think about that just now, it gets me too angry! Happy Monday everyone :)

    Morning all :)
Thanks for the start Ziggy, and welcome back :D Glad you ejoyed your hols!

Ally, hope your phone call conveys good news!

Ratison, I had the same dilemma re lounge flooring when we did up our house. I chose solid wood flooring, and I am glad every day that I did :D It was expensive, but then so is decent carpet. And it will NEVER need replacing, as, if it gets scratched and scuffed (no sign yet after 4 years) it can simply be sanded down and refinished. If I want to change the look, I can add a rug. It is not cold btw, as tiles for example might be. For cleaning, I just hoover it and every so often wipe it over with a mop and bucket, not making it too wet. If somebody spills something, no worries. No special equipment required, and no special cleaners (a squirt of washing up liquid is fine), as it has a sealed, 'dull shine' type finish. Having said that, it doesn't need washing very often. I love it! Wish I could say the same about the black and white tiles in the bathroom, which look clean for about 5 minutes after they are done :(

    Right, list for today:

Home grown rhubarb with my yogurt and cereal this morning, instead of bought fruit :)

Raining here, so my washing will have to go on the airer :(
Still, the garden needs it, and I might get away without watering the garden pots today if it carries on :T It has now cleared up, so I am about to peg it out for a while. It will then take less time to dry on the airer, in theory at least

    Check banks

HM meals from stores - aiming for a NSD :) I got some reduced steak out of the freezer, and immediately reached for a recipe book to find something exciting to do with it. I got as far as writing a shopping list, needing large tomatoes, a certain type of mustard, creme fraiche and mushrooms  Then I thought about it (and read Thriftychick's post), and rejected that idea. I have plenty of things that will go with it, and steak is in itself a treat, we don't have it very often! So we will have it with a HM marinade, new potatoes, a grilled squishy tomato, some roasted shallots and the ever present French beans :T Nothing spent :D

Cook some rather nasty pears that are lurking in the fruit bowl (this was on my list yesterday but I never got to it :o)

Take some new items to my sales unit, and tidy up after the weekend Done, and quite a few things had sold over the weekend :T

Any surveys that are available. I have come to the conclusion that people of a certain age whose children have grown up, are self employed, aren't much interested in holidays and don't know much about sport or celebrities are not the target demographic of most of them :rotfl: Managed a couple. Will check back in a minute

Managed to get out in the garden as the weather has cleared, so I tidied up the outdoor tomatoes, picked the French beans (yet again), a courgette and a small handful of tomatoes :T Colleague also gave me some of her greenhouse tomatoes, so I shan't need to buy any more this week :D Also decided to remove a few parsnips that are too close to a young tree. I dug 4, and they are a decent size, similar to the ones you buy in the supermarket :)

I am sure there is more, but can't think of it at the moment!

Hope everyone has a nice productive day :)
