Graphics Card faulty?

Hi,

As per title. I think my graphics card is on the way out. I upgraded to windows 10 with-out a hitch. Windows loaded and all was ok for a few days.

Then...I noticed the graphics card (fan) speeding up, and then slowing down. Whilst it was doing this, I was losing my display.

I've taken the graphics card out, and I have noticed on one of the gold pieces which you push "home" has a bit out of the bottom of it. (hope that makes sense)
Would this be the reason why I am not getting a display on my screen?

If I do a cold boot, I get my dell splash screen but it's got all lines running horizontally through it and it wont allow me to enter my bios password as the display goes off.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

many thanks.
Regards,

Money Saver

if it happens at the bios screen, sounds like it's had it, use on-board video if it has one, or buy another card. regarding the edge connector, maybe, maybe not, depends which connector it is, and how much is missing.

Another possibility is that a Windows 10 update has overwritten your graphics card driver with a driver that Microsoft thinks is better but actually isn't.

Which, if true, would have no bearing on the issues with the BIOS screen which appears before Windows loads.

Ok..So today my replacement graphics card arrived.

I can now fully log into windows.

However, the icons/screen is all large. When I check the settings, in device manager, it states under devices, there is a yellow ! beside the video controller, saying there is no update driver available. When clicked it states there are no available drivers for this device.

    The graphics card is:

RADEON X1300 SE Low Profile ( Half Height )

    Help!

Sounds like your dont have the drivers installed.

what graphics card was it that you bought ?

make sure you download and install the correct drivers for it, and it should fix the problem

Any reason you bought that particular card, it's very old. I think you may have driver problems with that as I don't think it meets minimum spec for W10.

    AGP perhaps or PCIe ?

How much did you pay for it ?

Its for an ageing 9yr Dell Desktop PC

    I believe it is PCIe
    It cost £8.99
