Item didn't arrive. What happens if they send another, and first one arrives?

Not sure if this is on the right board, but here goes.

I ordered an item from Amazon. It has a last estimated delivery date of 3rd August, so it is now approx a week overdue.

I've notified them of non-delivery.

If they send another, then the first one arrives, how do I go about getting it back to them, without ending up out of pocket on shipping charges?

Amazon will normally contact you when 2 arrive and pre-pay the postage to send the extra one back to them.

Use the online returns centre, select missed delivery date and you'll be given a choice of free return methods. Couldn't be simpler ;)

Even with marketplace sellers I get a notification when the item is shipped - did you get one, but it just hasn't arrived? Were you told which carrier was used?
  • Yes, I got an email, dated 27 July, stating it had been dispatched, and yes, it just hasn't arrived, and it's a week overdue.

The carrier is, according to Amazon, Royal Mail.
  • Refuse to accept delivery if it turns up?

What's the value of the item? They might tell you just to keep it.

And that's the only notification you'll get when RM are used.

I'd contact Amazon and tell them what happened.
  • if you make a claim via amazon , they will offer a voucher that you can withdraw to cash or use against your next purchase , this will be instant OR you can go to resolution (A to Z), this will take several days + several days to go back into your account
