Missing ISA

HI
My husband and I invested into a mini share ISA in 2001 through a broker. We only put £50 per month into it and only did it for about 12 months before cancelling the DD. Meanwhile the broker passed on all his dealings to another company who wrote and told us they had taken over. I cannot recall any more info being sent to us in connection to the ISA and I wondered if there is any way we can trace which company the ISA is with so we can cash in what pittance it has accumulated. I took out some Income Protection with this broker at the same time and have rung the company we did it through for details of who took over the accounts. I have been given info and I am waiting for their return call. If they were to say they have no info on this ISA, is there anywhere we can start looking for details?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Sarah

when you say broker, do you mean stockbroker or do you mean adviser?

The "broker" may have passed his dealings to another company but if you mean adviser, then that would have no impact on the ISA. That would still be where you set it up with. If it was a stockbroker account, then the new stockbroker would have details.

If it is a unit trust ISA, then you should, at minimum, get a 12 month statement. Many send them every 6 months. So, look at the last statement for details.

I would try HMRC. Every ISA has to be reported to HMRC at the end of the tax year whether it has received a deposit during the tax year or not, so they should have details of which ISA manager is currently responsible for it.
  • Thanks for your advice. I have now managed to track down the Financial Advisor (just call me Holmes) and he has told me who it was through. He had an amazing memory and even remembered my address ! We have rung them and they cannot tell us anything over the phone as my husband failed the security as they couldnt ask him enough questions, so they are sending some details through the post (although they couldnt confirm they had the account ;) )So hopefully we will have a little bit of money coming our way if it is worth selling at the moment.
