Hello, all
I'm a newbie here, though I have lurked (and thanked countless hundreds of you for your insightful posts in the past!).
I've been moved to post today because my pensioner dad needs help and reassurance and I know that you're just the people to give it to him.
He replied STOP to a text from +44747103130 a few days ago.
The text said "We have been trying to contact you regarding your PPI Claim, we now have details of how much you may be due, reply POST for your pack or STOP to opt-out? DD Ltd"
I'm 99.9% sure that the worst that can happen is that he'll get more spam texts, but he's worried that his details will be used to somehow siphon money from his account.
I've advised him to forward the text to 7726, as suggested elsewhere on here.
Please can you help? Is there any likelihood at all that he will lose out financially here?
Thanks so much in advance.
BB

He'll just have to pay for the text message so yes if he pays for texts he'll lose out by the cost of the text message.
Otherwise, no he won't lose any more than that. They are just fishing for a customer ignore them.:footie:

Thank you so much - I've just spoken to him and his mind is a lot easier now, thanks to this thread and some of the other research I've done.
He was worried that, by texting STOP, he'd triggered the same sort of mechanism that charities use to receive donations by text (a fiver to the NSPCC, three quid to Save The Children type thing) - but that it would be some scammer who'd stick a handful of zeros on the end of the 'donated' amount.
He's much reassured that this isn't the case now - so thank you.0
