5 month old laptop from PC World - refund/replacement?

Unless you are dipping your fingers in acid before typing, I don't think letters coming off the keys can be "wear and tear"...after just a few months!? I have had laptops years and typed a lot, but they do not wear at all. If they wear to the point you cannot read the letters, it makes the keyboard unusable as you can't type properly which is more than a cosmetic issue.
Why not buy a cheaper laptop as your main one, try to get your HP sorted out, then sell the HP if it does get sorted out.0 -
Wish I'd not purchased it then. I'm starting to think I'd rather stick it on eBay and lose a significant amount as a result.
I wouldn't have thought they can be as judgemental as yourself - as it's less than 6 months they'd have to prove it wasn't wear and tear as opposed the other way around.
They might not have made me buy all the accessories, but HP had argued it might be my set up. Given so many have complained about it you'd assume there was some responsibility for HP to address it, but obviously not. In hindsight I'd have sent it back straight away if I knew otherwise.
HP have already advised a factory reset which was not beneficial even without any software on it.
Regarding the key wear issue, I cannot find other people complaining about this particular issue online. Can you find more people who have found this an issue. Keyboard wear is cosmetic and is difficult for them to prove either way, but its also difficult for you to prove you have used it properly if other people do not seem to be having this issue. Other peoples anecdotes are not the be all and end all (as in my second paragraph) but with cosmetic issues it can help.
As for the wifi issue, you do say that other people online have had this issue. How many are we talking? They will no doubt have sold thousands of these laptops, so 100 people online may represent 1% of people actually having the issue, and wifi is so dependent on other things.
You need to give them chance to look at it, and being without a laptop is not deemed inconvenient. Inconvenience is not having a fridge, or a bed, or warm water.0 -
Having no laptop for the work I do is a major inconvenience. I don't think anyone can define what is inconvenience as it depends on people's circumstances.0

Your second sentence does have some merit, but as far as PCW are concerned you bought a laptop as a consumer, and for a consumer, being without a laptop for a few days would, in my opinion, not be a 'significant inconvenience'.Having no laptop for the work I do is a major inconvenience. As Wealdrom said, you did not buy as a business, which would entitle you to consider work as a legitimate inconvenience, you bought as a consumer so your 'work' inconvenience does not come into it unfortunately.0 -
So even the manufacturer advised a reset and you didn't want to? If it goes back to PC world they will almost certainly wipe it so you will probably save yourself time and hassle if you did it yourself.
I know you said lots of people had the same problem but if you searched for any model of laptop with a broad range of brands and specifications you will find the exact same "faults" because they are generally software issues which can happen to a £2000 top of the range custom build in exactly the same way as a £150 basic model. It's not something unique to your model or even the HP brand.0 -

What I meant was I did so and it wasn't beneficial for trying it. Same result.0 -
Wow, I'm never using Currys PC World again then. Whether that's the norm or not - I think I'd rather go somewhere that treats customers with better customer service.marliepanda wrote: »As Wealdrom said, you did not buy as a business, which would entitle you to consider work as a legitimate inconvenience, you bought as a consumer so your 'work' inconvenience does not come into it unfortunately.0 -

You appear to just be throwing your toys out of the pram now. Nowhere will afford you business rights when buying as a consumer0 -
I think I have every right to be angry.marliepanda wrote: »You appear to just be throwing your toys out of the pram now. Nowhere will afford you business rights when buying as a consumer0
