[*]Withdraw funding for nuclear energy and divert it into thorium reaction development.

Isn't that something of a contradiction in terms

There is no 'something' about it. Thorium is simply just an alternative to uranium in terms of powering a nuclear reactor.

    Here is a long explanation.

Forget building our own Nuclear reactors and just buy a couple of existing French ones. Run a bit more cable across the channel. Job done.

This approach carries a number of advantages :
    a) the reactors would be in France if we had a leak
    b) we can have them now
    c) did I mention they would be located in France? :D
  • Let us bring back Oliver Cromwell for starters he seemed to do a good job last time.

No good for the balance of trade or security

Would hit us for about £10B a year extra better to just keep using coal and gas

Its all a shame the uk was first in civil nuclear and even had a fairly good AGR design after the first few crappy ones but wasn't abke to get any krdera and couldn't ramp up volume. Sizewel B was also a sucess built on time and budget. Ap1000s would probably be wiser. About 20 of em. They are actually a derivative of Sizewell B afaik.

as for the accidents and risks they are as close to zero risk as anyrhing humanly possible ban everything else first

Isn't that effectively what we do by buying loads of French generated electricity from EDF
