Non-fault accident - Insurance Claim - who to go with?

I've been busy, but now have time to look back into this. The car has been taken by the third party insurer and payment has been made to me and I sent of V5c.
With regards to my telling insurance, I need to tell them I no longer have my car. I called the claim line for my insurance and they said I need to call customer services, but they said I would still need to pay the full amount as far as she was aware.
I have a friend who mentioned that you can put your insurance on "hold" for a certain amount of time, I assume until you get another car. I'm just wondering what is the next best step?
I have 10 years ncb before this current policy started in July, so if I don't make a claim by the end of this current policy I will have 11 years ncb.
I'm wondering if asking them to put it on "hold" could affect anything related to the ncb as it would be messing up the time frame and proof of ncb is usually with renewal letter from current insurance company.
I'm looking at cars, but it will probably be around a month before I get another.
I pay monthly on my insurance, does it just make sense to continue paying it? I think by cancelling it, i'll end up paying the same and losing 1 year ncb, I'm not sure if putting it on "hold" will mess with ncb or not.
At the moment my insurance company don't have confirmation of my car being written off by the third party.0 -
Assuming you haven't made any claims against your policy it's unusual for you to cancel but have to pay the policy in full.
As previously advised ask your insurer if you have a time limit to get another vehicle on cover, and if so can you suspend the policy. (A suspension won't affect your NCD)
Ask for the full cost of cancellation before deciding what to do, and when you find your replacement check that your insurer will cover it (if not you will have to cancel and go elsewhere)
You need to tell your insurer that you no longer own the car (you breach your policy by not doing so)0 -

I just phoned them, my payments will continue and I don't have a time limit to find a car as I didn't choose to write it off. If/when I find a new car they will recalculate premium.
Right now because my claim with them is still open, they would want £50 cancellation fee and the remaining balance for the year.
The claim was left open by the claims team for 3 months in case I had any problems with the 3rd party insurance and I wanted to go back through mine. I guess if I want to cancel I'll just phone up the claims department and ask them to close the open claim and then cancel. I think I still have to pay the £50 cancellation fee but I'll get a refund on the remaining months.0 -

(If you want or need to take out a policy elsewhere then unless you get it closed down prior to applying the claim will still show on the shared database as "open" and could cause you hassle when applying elsewhere)0 -
I still haven't worked out what car to get. I think I should cancel my insurance as I think it would be unlikely that this particular insurance company will be the cheapest when I do get quotes for what ever car I end up getting.
That will be £50, for proff of my NCB for this insurance policy I used my previous renewal letter from Admiral, I'm not sure if I still have it can I request another? or other form of NCB proof for the 10 years I already had before I took out this one.0 -
When you cancel your current insurer will issue a current proof of NCD (based on whatever NCD you have at the time of the cancellation)
You should use that for any new policy.
As already posted, your current open claim will show against your record should any new insurer check you out, and you could end up with a cancelled/void policy if you state more NCD than you actually have.
(But why cancel now when you should be pressing your insurer to close your claim?)0 -

Hi, sorry I forgot to mention that I called up my insurance company claims line last week and asked them to close the claim. They said it's closed. I thought I might have found another car but I don't seem any closer yet so was thinking I should cancel the insurance, if it don't have any negative consequences.0
