Somebody is due to look at my car today. If I go to an garage of my choice will I still be able to get a hire car?

I phoned Audi and they mentioned the name of their Approved Audi repairer. Can I just say I want the work done there? and still get a hire car?

The TP insurer has offered to fix your car at a repairer of your choice and supply a courtesy car. Where's the issue?

When I was reading online I read something about only getting a courtesy car when going with the insurance companies approved garages.

If I tell them to take it to the audi approved repairer and they are not on their approved garages I was thinking they might decline an courtesy car.

That's just usually when you go with your own insurer, and even then most of the time you can a courtesy car direct from the repairer.

Why are you not asking the insurance company these question? You'll get the definitive answer from them rather than speculation.

If your car is a write off, then you will be expected to return any replacement car in a tight schedule (usually when you receive the settlement they want the car back within 4 days)

So be prepared to sort out your replacement car quickly (as it may be written off today if it's being inspected today, meaning the wheels will start turning over the settlement more or less straight away)

When you are the innocent third party then you are entitled to a replacement car paid for by the third party irrespective of their insurer's "rules". (Assuming you need one). There is no "speculation" involved!

(You are always entitled to choose where you get your car repaired)

This is the first time I'm using insurance. I just want to know what my rights are and what to expect in case they try to pull the wool over my eyes. I believe that they would try to go with what ever is the cheapest option for them, that does not mean it will be the best option for me.

They have decided to write off my car, the sum I got was okay, not great. I've got a text to send my V5 & MOT to them, do I need to fill out anything on the V5?

Do I need to contact the DVLA or send them something to say I don't own the car?

My insurance just started last month, can I get a refund on remaining balance if I don't get another car, e.g. been thinking of getting a scooter. I pay monthly. I know I can transfer to another car, is there a time limit?

I heard of refunds for car tax, i pay this monthly also.

You need to check with your insurer how long the policy can be suspended for. (Different companies have different policies)

You can cancel the policy but check on the total cost of cancelling before taking that action if you are likely to get a replacement in the near future.

Send off the part (V5C/3) in your V5 and send the rest to the insurer.

You will get a refund of any overpaid car tax.
